Helpful phonics resource, but challenging to store in an organized way
I have the entire set of these Edulok phonics puzzles and am using them to teach my preschooler, who enjoys learning with them. I appreciate that the pieces are laminated cardboard, are visually appealing, and feature appropriate pictures. I also like that they are double-sided and that the set has level divisions. The color border that matches the center is helpful as well.I wish the pieces snapped together more firmly so you could pick up the finished puzzle without it falling apart. This would enable it to be used more like a flash card if desired and make the set easier to store. Storage difficulty is why I can’t give this product a 5-star rating. Because the puzzles don’t stay together, you must place all the pieces in something and then sort out what you want when using them, which isn’t ideal, especially if you want to work only on specific puzzles/cards.

This is a review for “Level 1 Rhyming Puzzles”.I got these puzzles for use in a kindergarten classroom for students to use independently at a literacy center. Kindergarten students love to put puzzles together.They work very well for this purpose. They are definitely self-checking as advertised. Each word family card is bordered with a different color. There are 15 cards, each with 5 different pieces. That is a lot of pieces for 5 and 6 year old’s to deal with at one time. So I put each set of vowels in a separate box. They can put each set of 3 puzzles together. Then put them back in the box and take out another set of 3 puzzles.There are just two reasons I gave these 4 stars instead of 5 stars. First, each puzzle measures 4x 4 inches, which is a little small. Second, some of the words do not actually rhyme. For example: on the “ox” card the words are: box, ox, fox and toxic. Toxic does not rhyme with the others. The ox comes in the middle of the word instead of at the end. On the “ob” card the words are: sob, knob, job and lobster. Again lobster has the “ob” in the middle of the word not at the end. On the “up” card the words are: up, cup, pup and upstairs. Upstairs has the up in the beginning of the word not the end.I still think they are good sturdy, well-made and colorful puzzles that will hold up well in a classroom and help students learn to spell and recognize word families.

Fun game that can be used to learn a lot of different ways
There is a lot you can do with this set. Not only rhyming with the sounds, but also things like color matching and trying to create a set without the center “key sound” piece. The color matching can be a bit of an issue since the colors repeat across the set. The double sided nature of the sets is good from a space stand point but might cause some confusion with some students. The pieces are made of a good solid material and the set comes with a storage bag, which is always handy.

Decent reinforcement tool for teaching phonics
Each of these puzzle sets comes with a double sided sheet with all of the phonemes and examples used and a translucent bag for storing the puzzles (you could technically get them back in the box, but the box is a bit flimsy and you would have to place and stack them all just so to carefully slide them in. A bag or a bigger box is the way to go).Itâs standard clipart, mostly white cartoony people, but this set has the most diversity of the lot- 3 whole black people. Most of the pictures fit well. I will say I think the insect fly would have been better than a cartoon boy with a cape, and sport just being a collection of balls is potentially confusing (but what else are you gonna do?).The pieces are technically self correcting, but you have to watch color border AND shape- otherwise you could force pieces together. The colors within a set are all grouped together so you can use these well without mixing different sets. A lot of thought went into how these sounds were grouped and how which sounds are paired for each double sided puzzle. You can include more or less to increase the difficulty or draw attention to different parts of the sounds. The cardboard is as thick as I would expect and itâs printed and cut well. With intentional usage by old enough kiddos it should hold up.

Ordered these for drilling for homeschooling. Cute & clever way to get the information in their heads. What kid doesn’t like a puzzle. The price is ok, not great.

FANTASTIC, FUN, LEARNING TOOL – Wish they came with storage.
There are an impressive number of puzzles. at different levels, all of which can be turned over for a new puzzle. They are very effective and fun learning tools and printed on good quality card that should last long enough (but not really for classroom level use).I WISH they came with some kind of storage box/clips… something, rather than a cheap mesh bag that everything falls apart in and is a pain to store and start using.
