Immediate comfort
Out of the box the Nortiv 8 hiking boots fit better than I had hoped. Over the years Iâve worn out many different brands of hiking boots, some, of course, better than others. And more expensive. My latest light hikers, Mont Belle ,would still be in use now except that after so many years of hard abuse they kinda fell apart and I didnât feel right filing a warranty claim. So I shopped around looking for something comfortable, durable, and that wouldnât leave me barefoot in the national park. Found the Nortiv 8 with âwideâ option, read the reviews and took a chance. Gotta admit, the price was attractive too. When I received the boots USPS, I inspected their construction, scrutinized them from heel to toe. There is lots of stitching where many competitors are just gluing. It is usually only on boots costing twice as much that you start to see this kind of construction. Many of my previous hikers fell apart as a result of sole adhesives letting go. Itâs so annoying. My personal feeling is that I get longer wear from stitched uppers as opposed to reliance on glue alone, which always seems to be where boots fail. And there are limits to what a shoe glue repair can do.As for the Active 8 boots in the field, they were immediately comfortable, required no break-in period, and felt like old friends back on a familiar trail together. I had no rubs, no blisters, and no irritations whatsoever. There is room for an insert, but that doesnât seem necessary. I fully expected these boots to â failâ their inaugural hike and need to be returned. In that regard I was surprised and wrong. They were great. As an observation, they donât seem to breathe well, but itâs a small consideration that can be easily overcome by slightly loosening up lacing while hiking. Iâm not complaining. I mourn the demise of my Mont Belles, but in the Active 8s I have found what I believe to be well made and comparable boots at suitable retiree pricing. Only time will tell if these boots will be durable and live up to their predecessor. But I think Iâll likely wear out before these boots do.If youâre searching for quality without compromise, at an affordable price, the Active 8 boots might be where your search ends. Take these out on your next walkabout. Youâll see.

Get these!
Off brand maybe, but these hikers are well made, waterproof, have a very comfortable footbed, aggressive tough sole, feel snug on your feet and ankles when laced up, and weigh almost nothing compared to the big brands. Plus they are less than half price! You can buy 3 pair of these, or one pair of the “other brand”. And they look good! A no brainer.

Comfortable, good traction, and good price.
The soles of my seven year old inexpensive Coleman hiking boots are about to fall off so it is time for a new pair of yard work shoes. I tried on a pair of HI-TEC hiking boots at my local sporting goods store and did not like how tight they fit around my toes. After reading several reviews, I purchased a pair of Nortiv 8s. These are not tight around my toes and are comfortable.Today, I used them to help a neighbor get his riding mower unstuck. All he needed was for somebody to apply weight on the rear fender over the tire that was spinning out. These shoes provided the traction needed to push the mower until it was able to be driven out of the ditch. Later today, I took the dogs on a half mile walk and these shoes provided enough comfort through out the walk.Hopefully these will last a long time and provide some good yard work comfort and traction.

Very Impressed!
Compared to the hikers these replaced that were leather and cost 3x as much, I am very impressed with these. They are not leather but they seem well made. Stitched not just glued. Nice rubber toe guard. Great ankle support! Waterproof – I have walked through wet fields and no issues. More room in the toe box than my old ones. I do not have a wide foot but these allow a heavier sock when needed. The extra room adds an air barrier so they are warmer on cooler mornings. In addition the padding seems to have a little insulation quality as well. I usually put in my own inserts because I suffer with plantar fasciitis but these seem to provide good support and cushion. They have a good tread that has a little give which also lends to improved comfort. Not sure if that means they will wear out faster but if so, for the improved comfort factor and cost of these hikers, it is worth it.

Boots fit well but the first day or so don’t tighten too much at the top and allow them to break in. I use them to walk the dogs in the woods and over the past two weeks that I have had them they have stayed waterproof. As of writing 24/09/24 we have just gone through some of the worst wet weather this year and they have held up well. I would suggest they are more of a late autumnwinter boot as they are very warm and I would suspect your feet would get very hot with these in the summer. The grip is pretty good but not 100% as dogs charging after squirrels have nearly had me off my feet in the slop… but to be fair 99% of people won’t have that issue
