another “powerful” book by Dr. Neal Barnard
There is nothing I didn’t like about this book. I love the easy explanation of what foods help curb appetite and which foods help burn calories. I love the different categories for the many, many beautiful recipes provided! For example, one recipe section is called “handhelds” which is full of delicious wraps, sandwiches, tacos, etc… There is a lot of variety which make it fun and interesting! The photos of the food make my mouth-water!

Dr. Barnard’s Best Book to Date
Reading through “The Power Foods Diet,” and I can say, it’s Dr. Barnard’s best book yet. If you’ve read any of his other books, you know the book is very well-researched and trustworthy. It’s presenting a new approach to healthy eating, overall health, as well as weight loss, with concise and easy to read text and recipes. I read a lot of surprising things about foods I thought I already knew about. What’s more, there are a ton of recipes in the book accompanied by really excellent food photography. These recipes look amazing! All seem easy to prepare and look really tasty, with an appealing layout for ease of reading. The book also doesn’t back away from controversy. For example, it points out negatives about coconut oil, salmon, and other foods some might claim to be “healthy.” This book is highly recommended for anyone of any age interested in healthy eating.

Very informative book
This book is half informative (about switching to a plant based lifestyle) AND had some good recipes. I’ve not had it a long time, but I’ve made a few of the recipes and they were very good. I’m definitely looking forward to trying some of the other recipes as they all sound very good and fairly easy and delicious. I would definitely recommend this book if you’re trying to find some solid information about this way of eating/living …Dr. Bernard breaks it down for you to easily understand the ins & outs of it all.

Low fat Vegan
This book basically pushes a low fat, vegan diet, which is totally fine, but I felt it was more anti fat than pro power foods. Emphasis was placed on avoiding sources of fat, including avocados(!), meat, dairy, and extra virgin olive oil. I didnât see many new recommendations, other than what we already (should) know: eat more fruits, vegetables, spices, and whole grains. I recommend reading this because the advice is sound and there are many good recipes. I recommend also reading Eat to Beat Disease by William Li for some less restrictive ideas.

Life-Enhancing Information
I have âalwaysâ struggled with weight, topping out at 283 pounds. A heart spasm and angiogram got my attention and started me on this journey of discovering. My go-to has become those, like Dr. Barnard, who focus their advice on science-based and peer-reviewed evidence. This book is foundational. If you want to know the truth about health and how your body can react to the right foods â whole foods, plant-based â then devour this book today. Youâll be so glad you didâ¦I know I am.

Wonderful book
The first thing you notice with this book is gorgeous food photography (by Dustin Harder). The recipe ingredient lists are (thankfully) short and the ingredients are available anywhere, and I like the fact that the book has lots of information and tips for people who do not cook and want convenience foods. However, the most important thing about The Power Foods Diet is that it is (to me, at least) a completely new way of thinking about foods and using foods to get healthy and lose weight. It gets away from calorie-counting, fear of carbs, fat-shaming, etc., etc., and provides empowering information you can use. Who knew that cinnamon or ginger could help with weight loss or that fiber could trap calories in your digestive tract so you canât absorb them? I like the fact that Dr. Barnard takes pains to show the scientific evidence and separate truth from fads, and does this without a lot of fluff.

Love educators like Dr Neal Barnard
This book is filled with great information! I just thought it was different! I thought it was a full on cookbook. Itâs more of a book with some recipes in the back. There are a few pictures scattered in but not for every recipe at all & actually not next to any of the recipes either. I ended up returning because I would rather just buy the audio version to listen to on my walks since itâs more of a book. The recipes looks good but itâs not written or organized like a cookbook at all. I still recommend this for anyone who is looking for more of a book set up though!

Well supported with studies
I have followed Dr. Barnard on you tube for some time now and was very interested in the studies he used to support the whole food plant based life style. After reading this book and reading the studies, I am convinced that this is something that I need to do for my health. I have been WFPB for about a year now and have lost over 30 pounds. The best part is that I’m not hungry, and the recipes are delicious. The new recipes in the book are wonderful. Give it a real try for a month. Oh, at first you may not really like the food, but your taste buds need to adapt to the new seasonings and food.

A wee bit pricey but good info (wait for the paperback if price is an issue). Heads up: It’s promoting vegan and low fat, but explains in understandable language why this is very healthful, and gives variety of lots of good recipes that are not tricky to follow. Since I’ve had problems with the keto (high fat) diets, I need an alternative that is edible, and I like to eat real foods, not processed or packaged meals. Food selections will not break the bank if you look around or ask at your health food store. In general I like this book.

I have tried a few recipes and I really like them. I am surprised by how easy they are to put together which is great sometimes and plant based cooking can be time consuming and this isn’t. I made the Shroomy Stroganoff and it was really good. My only thing I think people need to be aware of is many of these meals are quite low calorie and so not satiating enough for some. The mushroom dish I made has 275 calories which isn’t a lot for a meat. He gives 2 options with the pasta 8-12 ounces and peas 1-2 cups. I used the lower numbers and the calories were 187. All 4 servings are 748 calories. My husband is quite slim and while I want to lose he wants to at least maintain. All I am suggesting is if you are not satiated just eat more of it. Plan snacks well and he talks about that.
