Amazingly prescient explanation of rocketry and space travel
This book, even 70 odd years later, is a terrific primer on the theory of rockets, orbits, planetary systems and pretty much everything involved in space exploration. The reader requires little to no higher math to understand it. I am amazed at how much was known at the time Clark wrote it, but also fascinated by how many things we have learned since then. He explores many developments that have actually come to pass. Other things were invented later and made his ideas unnecessary. (Solid state electronics didn’t exist. Computers were not compact, and Solar panels had not been invented.) It was an easy and quite enjoyable read.

Definitely a must-read if you enjoy learning about space and technology
Arthur C Clarke was a visionary and a genius. After reading this books it’s not clear what was first, if this book or NASA’s ideas about space exploration in the 60s, but everything that has been done so far matches perfectly to what is written in this book. So perfectly that it would seem that this book has been used as the source for ideas/concepts by anyone developing any space tech. It is clear that Arthur C Clarke made the effort of writing about a very technical subject in a language that the layman can understand. Definitely a must-read if you enjoy learning about space and technology.

Fascinating view of mid-Century “Future” of Space
I found this book in a local antique store. Well worth reading. Published 6 years before the launch of Sputnik and the SPACE RACE, the author has an optimistic, non-bellicose view of the benefits of space exploration. Some of Clarke’s diagrams and predictions are quite prescient; for instance, satellites that orbit every 24 hours for telecommunications. This was 11 years before Telstar introduced real-time, intercontinental TV broadcasts.Interestingly enough, Clarke diagrammed and forecast a method of creating artificial gravity that closely resembles the “ring” space craft in “2001: A Space Odyssey.” This book will fascinate SciFi fans and anyone who longs for our space program to restart after its long decline.
