A comprehensive guide to financial literacy
“Smart Money Skills for Kids” is an engaging, comprehensive guide to financial literacy that makes money management accessible and enjoyable for young readers. The book covers a broad range of essential topics, from earning and budgeting to saving and investing and even modern concepts like digital currency, online safety, and ethical spending. Its clear language, straightforward explanations, and interactive activities keep children interested, offering practical tips that help build lifelong financial habits.I appreciated the bookâs relatable examples and creative strategies for teaching kids how to earn money, differentiate between needs and wants, set financial goals, and explore entrepreneurship. Parents should find it valuable for their children and as a tool to spark meaningful family conversations about finances. The depth of content and text-heavy format may be more suitable for older kids and teens, and more visuals could enhance its appeal to younger readers. However, the bookâs focus on fostering a positive financial mindset and encouraging generosity and intelligent money habits makes it stand out.Overall, “Smart Money Skills for Kids” is excellent for families, homeschoolers, and educators looking to lay a solid foundation in financial literacy. The book provides an informative, motivating, and empowering approach to teaching kids how to manage money confidently and responsibly, offering lasting benefits for their financial futures.

definitely not for kids!
the book by itself is a good book to serve as introduction to money and finance as basics, the book tackles the history of money, banks and interests, making money, spending, methods of saving, investing , budgeting and goal setting among others. My problem is that this isn’t really a book for “kids”, teenagers yes but not kids.my kids (9 & 10 ) read this and they were confused so i had to intervene and explain many concepts, but still some were hard for them and that’s how i realized the book should be simpler than that :- interest explanation was fine, but there was no point of going into the difference between simple and compound difference and how to calculate the formula of compound, kids at 9-10 are not yet to this level.-investing the money : in bonds, stocks and mutual funds! are we still talking about kids? even the “simple” explanation can be complicated for kids! i quote some sentences from mutual funds : “funds pool money from many investors to buy a wide range of stocks/ bonds, or other securities …By spreading your investments across many different assets, you reduce the risk of losing money if one of them needs to perform better”. this is not a “kid” level. Or even later when talking about cryptocurrencies and digital money, throwing sentences like Blockchain are not controlled by banks or government is not simple to explain! i needed to go to the roles of the banks and government in explaining about banks/central banks/ government role and money printing, inflation… hard for kids! And to be back for the final point of “mutual funds”, i mean i had a big problem with how the book started in the introduction talking about explaining for little girls to know how to save money to buy that doll, then reaching the chapter of “earning”, we are talking about doing chores around the house, or walking the dog for the neighbor or selling lemonade but then suddenly when we reach to investing we are talking about stocks, bonds and mutual funds! those lemonade they will sell are not really enough to buy stocks! the kids want the scooter and the doll, they dont want to invest in mutual funds and have different eggs carry the risk!

I have two young children who recently started receiving pocket money. Itâs important to me that they learn how to manage money from an early age and acquire basic financial literacy. However, we face two problems: either, as parents, we donât know enough about money and finances ourselves, or, if we do, we struggle to explain it to our children in a simple and understandable way. This book can help parents in both situations. A thumbs up from me!

Wow. I was so impressed with this book that covers so much more than how to save money or how interest works. This book truly explains to children how the economy works and how they can engage with it. From giving them ideas on how to generate income to explaining value and basic budgeting, it is probably the best kid finance book I have found!Only note: spring for the cover without the watermark.
