Excellent Book
I loved this adorable story that touches on diversity. Max makes fun of a boy because of his size which makes him sad. He leaves with his mother, but Max realizes that he upset him. When he goes home, he tells his father about his day and how he treated the boy. It becomes a teachable moment for them where his father talks to him about differences in people. I loved how the book is written and how it goes into talking about differences and how it could affect how people are treated. It is well written and beautifully illustrated. Once again Harrison has nailed a subject matter in his story in such a way that it makes a great conversation starter with teachable moments!

âWe can be friends despite our differences. It can be fun.â
Author Aleks Harrison is a welcome author to the field of books for children, especially books that both entertain and teach youngsters about dealing with emotions and feelings. His series EMOTIONS AND FEELINGS to date includes I FEEL ANGRY, HOORAY I CAN DO IT, I LIKE TO BE KIND, I HAVE A FRIEND, I FEEL WITH MY HEART, and now I KNOW THE SECRET OF DIVERSITY. The fine illustrations are the art of Ferlina Gunawan.Aleks presents his book in rhyming pattern that adds to the appeal of the book to children. Max attends a climbing class: âI am looking forward to climbing practice today, Coach says Iâm improving in every way. Today, I hope to truly make it to the top. I love rock climbing I never want to stop.â Also in the class is a very short boy who wants to climb but his efforts are mocked, even by Max, who once back at home shares the mean behavior with his dad. Dad, in turn shares his own history of similar behavior and Max learns from him that differences among people can secure bonding friendships out of kindness, tolerance, respect and appreciation.Charming writing, fine illustrations, and very solid advice, offered in a manner that children can absorb! Aleks Harrison is a positive voice in childrenâs literature. Recommended. Grady Harp, April 22

It’s important for children to understand diversity
I chose to read this book after receiving a free e-copy from the author. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.Max and his friends make fun of a boy who is shorter than them. When the boy starts crying, Max feels bad because he realizes that they hurt his feelings. When he gets home, he talks to his dad about it, and his dad tells him that the same thing happened to him when he was young. He explains that we are all different but that we can all be friends no matter what our differences are.The following week, Max makes sure to seek out the boy, to apologize, and to make friends with him. They had fun playing all day!I Know the Secret of Diversity is another sweet Max story that teaches children about diversity, that weâre all different. The story is presented in rhymes, and the illustrations are bright and colorful. The rhyming and illustrations will keep the attention of children, so they can read and enjoy the story while learning an important life lesson.

Secret of Diversity
I Know the Secret of Diversity: Children’s Picture Book About Diversity and Inclusion for Preschool (Emotions & Feelings book for preschool) by Aleks HarrisonWhat I love right from the start is the fact I can rotate my screen and the words tapped will enlarge them. This doesnât happen often in children’s book. Thanks to this author he nailed it! Makes it MUCH more enjoyable when you can see the words.Colorful, children’s rhyming book about the subject of diversity. It’s a must nowadays with our society. not just for kids but adults as well.A boy is anxious to get to practice and the coach has seen he’s improved. After achieving his goal a little small boy approaches and wants to race to the top but he’s a new climber. The older bigger boys make fun of him and he leaves crying with his mother. The older boys talk about it after the little boy leaves and realize it was NOT nice what they did to him.At home later with his dad he explains that he did make it to the top but then about the incident with the little boy.He is glad his son can recognize that it was not ok behavior and tells him of what happened to him when he was a young boy. It;s all about people being different, it’s called diversity. Even in his world his dad explains that his boss is in a wheelchair and he’s treated the same way as everybody.Love how when the boy comes across the little short boy he tells him he’s sorry and will show him what he’s learned.Love ending it’s Never too late to learn diversity. About the author is included at the end along with contacts for the author. Cool thing for me is the great grandchildren can point out the pictures and tell me the story that way. Others are older and will be able to read these words.Very reassuring words from his father.Received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.

Super cute book and lesson about diversity
Love the storyline of this book and walking through different kinds of people – height, race, disability, etc. Definitely a cute book and a great lesson for kids!

We are all different and sometimes disabilities are invisible or you can be different for another reason. We are all unique and individuals but being able to sit down and discuss situations and feelings with your kid is the biggest take home here. Differences are good, making fun of them hurts a lot of people sometimes forever.
Stephanie Taylor –
A brightly illustrated children’s book that teaches children about diversity and how everyone is different.I think this is a good one for both boys and girls and it has a strong and important message within its rhyming text.

Through the eyes of a white author with white kids and a white main character in the book is absolutely not how diversity should be explained. This book is an example of someone trying to benefit from lack of diverse books out there. I do not recommend this book, this is coming from an afro latino family.
