Terrific update of a classic textbook
Finally, Robert Manning updates a classic outdoor recreation textbook used in almost all Recreation Management curriculum in the United States. Succinct and spot on, Manning re-examines basic concepts in his quest to explain why outdoor recreation visitors behave as they do. Terrific text.

Valuable resource for the practioner
I have dog-eared copies of the first and second editions of Manning’s book. It’s been 20 years since I read the first edition back in graduate school and without fail in my professional career (centered around park systems planning), I have found myself going back to the book at least once each year as both a reference and an inspiration. None of my other college texts (with the exception of my hand-written notes from a class on Geographic Analysis taught by Eric Sheppard at the U of MN) have had such a lasting impact on my work. An excellent book!
