Good for a book that looks like it’s made from interviews and press articles
I think this book does deserve a top ranking because it does give us good insight to Pre’s life and is inspiring though still a basic overview. With that said, it does seem largely to be based on newspaper and magazine articles and interviews and as someone said, seems to scratch the surface about Prefontaine. However, in doing that, we still get the basic facts of his life, hometown, achievements, a bit on his training habits and his personality. Perhaps there is the need for a more grand examination of this runner but living tragically a short life, this is still a fair summary. Perhaps more about his trip to the Olympics and disagreements with the AAU could have been written about but I’m sure, there was a lot more to come from him. Eventually, I’ve got to see the movies.

Avid Reader and Runner
Good read. Very exciting person and a shame what happens. I miss the hay day of running. People used to be excited about running but now we sit around and watch others play football and make millions from us.

Pre book review
Interesting incites on races less popular in Steve’s career. Really shows human side of a running legend. Great read for anyone who enjoys running and inspiration.

Great story
As a kid growing up in Eugene I saw Pre run a lot but didnât fully understand his battle with the AAU. He was my childhood hero. Each time I read a book about Pre I keep hoping the end of the story will be been different. Sadly, it is not fiction but reality. Gone but not forgotten Pre.

Just Fine
Book arrived in a timely manner and even though not new, it looks in good shape and very readable.

A runner
An interesting man with great talent. Taken too soon, I imagine. But we will never know what would have become of him. All we have is what he was and what he left behind. The legacy of Pre will live on in track/running history beyond us all.

This is an a easy read. I finished it in about half of …
I had heard of Steve Prefontaine but do not really remember him. He will Frank Shorter helped to fuel the running boom. Pre was an intense competitor that drew huge crowds. This book tells the story of his races and of the work many did not know that he did with kids and in prisons. This is an a easy read. I finished it in about half of day of airplane travel.Chris WodkeAuthor: Running for My Life-Winning for CMT

Very little learned about Prefontaine’s personality or his training
The books was okay, but you learned little about PRE except that he had a big personality, hated to lose, trained hard (or so it is implied) and that he often made excuses on the rare occasion that he did lose.

A running legend, and an athlete whose heights we will never know. Being a runner myself, I knew of his legend, and have even seen one of the films about his life. The book covers the essentials of who Steve Prefontaine was, using interviews of people who knew him and tracing his running life to its tragic end.4 stars because I feel that the writing could have been better. The story of Steve Prefontaine deserved a better prose style. But that is a minor point. If you love distance running, read the book. The sadness of an overturned sports car crushing the life out of such potential will move you to tears. It did me.

Really great book about Steve Prefontaine. It is amazing how much of a legend a high school runner can be!

The simplicity of this book makes the subject matter all the more wonderful. It moved me to tears.
