Good weight training book, but not golf specific
I agree with the review by Mongo. This is a well written and organized book about weight training, but is not specifically written to improve golf conditioning and not very useful unless you want to engage in a serious weight training regimen. There are only a few perfunctory references to golf and there are no sections on stretching and flexibility exercised for golf. I also ordered “Golf Shape” by Reid and found it much more what I was looking for. It is 100% golf specific and covers both flexibility and strength training and has sections explaining how different exercises relate to different parts of the golf swing.

the ultimate guide to weight training for golf
I am 70 years old and have been using this “training” book for a while. I’ve won 4 Senior Club Championships and during the same time, I’ve won 3 regular Men’s Club Championships, in Bethany Beach, DE. Just this past week, I competed in Club Championship in Bonita Springs, Fl and came in second. I’ve had some of my longest drives, 260 yds and one at 276 yds. We played to a distance of 6774 yards. I contribute this success to the exercise program in this book. Thank you, Robert Price.Harry Steele

Ultimate
This was a quick, easy and informative read for the novice weight trainer/improving golfer. Very nice!

OK… Nothing really of note to learn in this book
This book gives a general workout plan with more or less standard weight lifting fare… squats, bench, curls, etc etc. There is really very little here that is golf-specific, or really any different than any other weight lifting book you see. It’s well written and clearly explains the exercises. But in general it did not really push into any new territory.

Useless for Golfers
This book has about five pages of information that is even vaguely golf-specific (pp. 9-14); the rest are how to perform weight lifting and specific exercises, with some generic diet advice. The problem is that there is almost no link between the two parts of the book, as in “This exercise will help with your grip” or “These exercises strengthen your forearms, which is important because…” While I haven’t read or looked at all of them, there are 30 books by this author (listed on the back page of this one) claiming to be weight training for different sports. It looks as though the author wrote one book for weight lifting and grafted on a few pages in front and changed the title to make it seem sport-specific. In fact, there are more pages of advertising in the back of the book (six) for the author’s website than there are golf-specific pages. It would be interesting to see if the same typos are in all of the books. If you’re a lifter who wants to take up golf, this book may be helpful, but if you’re a golfer or golfer-wannabe, this book is total waste of money.

Good book and range of excercises
Offers a good well rounded approach to training for golf. I’ve noticed as I get out of my early 20s my distance was going down and would be sore after rounds. Never been much of the workout type, but this book lays out a simple plan for off season, pre season, and during the season routines. There is also a good variety of excercises shown and you can put together a plan than only requires some dumbbells and one of those fitness balls.

NOT a golf training book
This is an OK book for general weight training, but it is NOT specific to golf. In fact, the word golf does not even appear after page 7. There are sections that refer to running faster and jumping higher – not exactly skills needed for golf. It really looks like they change the first few pages for a specific sport, but use the remainder of the book for any sport. And even the general weight training sections are pretty ho-hum. Granted, I’ve been weight training for a lot of years, so this info might be useful for someone just starting out. But it is definitely not specific to golf.
