A must have for the tactical athlete.
I’ve been a customer/ follower of Stew for years and as a PT instructor in some police academies I have used Stew’s PT test workout plans as suggested workouts for the cadets. No cadet that I had who followed these plans ever failed the PT test you have to pass to graduate. I myself have used his free plans to dramatically increase my run and pull ups. That being said I never thought of Stew as a weight guy and my workouts have always been weight lifting and conditioning as two separate concurrent programs. But with Stew’s new book he has shown how he integrates conditioning and weight lifting so that they work together instead of competing with each other for your energy and time. This IMO is for the tactical athlete who is basically looking for GPP, general physical preparedness, instead of a looking to train for a specific goal or test. This is done in template form where you can add, subtract or combine any exercise that you want. Stew uses his favorite exercises that while I wouldn’t call them “functional” (b/c I hate that trite moniker) but instead task specific. Tasks such as the swat/cop that has to climb through a window wearing his heavy rig or a fireman that has to squat down to the ground to pick up a heavy hose or person and then carry them for short distance. The strength of this program is it’s template type layout that you can add subtract or combine you favorite exercises that work for you. For instance I can no longer dead lift with significant weight because of my injury history so I instead do the back squat.Stew donates a lot of his time for free to answer personal inquires and as a SEAL mentor helping aspiring BUD/S candidates be physically and mentally prepared for one of the hardest challenges a person can voluntarily put themselves through in life. He does this all for free and it is invaluable for so many. Lets support him and get the book. If anything it’s a new perspective with tools you can put in your PT tool box.

    Looks like some tough workouts
Looks like some tough workouts. I’ll use it to train for a tough mudder. Anything Stew Smith makes has some good stuff in it. Buy it if you want some good ways to incorporate cardio and interval training into your weight training so you can build muscular strength and endurance and still be able to run from here to there without feeling like your gonna die.

    good book!
I really enjoyed reading this book. It had a lot of really useful information in it.. It gave me a lot of new ideas how I can improve my workouts.. I wish that I had this book when I started going to the gym.. The ideas/thoughts in this book are balanced and make a lot of sense, especially the areas when he talks about avoiding overuse injury.. If you have not read this book before, I recommend doing so!

I’d recommend this book to not only people that are going …
I’d recommend this book to not only people that are going or want to go to BUDS. But to anyone who is wanting to get in shape but, just don’t know how to. He does a great job illustrating the different type of technique you should be using while you do the lifts, and what kind of lifts you should be doing.

    Not about weight lifting
As a lifter I tend to buy too many books thinking there is something new; I was disappointed by this one, it has very little about lifting but if you want good info. on a program that includes different stuff not just weight lifting, this is good. Not a book for lifters!

In a world that is full of people and books telling you the best way to work out, this is the only book you need if you want functional fitness and strength. I mean, what better example is there of peak fitness and strength than that of a Navy SEAL?You CAN use it if you are a complete beginner, but you would likely need to dial back some of the routines and perhaps extend them to get your body used to these kinds of workouts.Stew Smith is a former SEAL and has trained and prepped countless military recruits and emergency service personnel, so he knows his stuff. You will need to provide some input when implementing the program, and while it does have a section on training nutrition, it is not a do-it-for-me book when it comes to managing your life outside of the training program.I admire the conditioning and resolve of military and emergency services personnel, and I think that having a level of fitness that is even on the same road as a Navy SEAL is the best kind of fitness there is,
