Beautifully written
I read this book with my 4th grade daughter today and she found it very much relatable. I love the message of how everyone is different, can be beautiful and contribute so much to society too. It is an uplifting book for any child especially as they enter middle school and start to experience more of the overwhelming world around them. Another great read by this truly talented childrenâs book author!!

A beautiful story!
There is much to love about this story of a main character who feels different. The characterâs voice is very relatable and I finished the book feeling so much hope for the future. I hope all children read this and feel empowered by the things that make them different.

A fun tale for recognizing super powers
So cool that the author took multiple things about a kid and turned them into super powers. I specially liked the way certain things are described and how the kids interact. Belonging does come from inside us. By recognizing our superpower.

What A Wonderful Book!!
This author, one of the best children’s book writers working today, has hit it out of the park – again! As I read Ammu’s story my 5th grader’s soul cried out “Yes! Yes! Where was this book when I was the different kid in school?” How beautifully she captures a vulnerable child’s desire to be accepted, and the ways this can cause us to imitate norms and not value out unique selves. Putting cream on her skin so that she looks lighter, shaving her legs, forsaking the delicious Indian food her mother makes her for bland American food: Each effort to fit in causes more of Ammu to disappear. Until, with the wise words of a friend and the strength she finds in a dream to take pride in who she is, Ammu changes her attitude and she founds The Defenders Of Diversity Club. A truly wonderful book that belongs in every single classroom and child’s bookshelf.

Great diversity book
Ammu realizes she doesnât fit in-her food, her look, and how she dresses. She tries to change to fit in. Itâs doesnât work. She realizes her differences are really her strength! She joins forces with other in her class & their become Defenders of Diversity!!This is a definite must have for every classroom & household. It is based on the authorâs life. I love the end pages where students can come up with their own diverse superpowers & a place to make a list ways they can be a Defender of Diversity in real life!

WONDERFUL STORY!
I absolutely LOVE Amulyaâs new book! She tellâs the story of a little girl who has a difficult time at school, when other children tease her for being different. She finds her inner strength and creates a way to unite everyone. BRILLIANT story and beautiful illustrations! A wonderful book that should be on every childâs bookshelf!

â¤ï¸ working together â¤ï¸
Defenders of Diversity: Finding Strength in Differences is a well written with child friendly illustrations by Amulya Veldanda. Her character, Ammu feels uncomfortable being herself at her school. But donât we all have different interests, backgrounds, cultures? This is a picture book that all ages can enjoy and discuss together. I highly recommend this book. ððððð

Defenders of Diversity is a beautifully written and illustrated children’s book with a touching message. The story tenderly portrays the insecurities of a sensitive child struggling to fit in and find their place in the world. The story mainly focuses on the challenges faced by Ammu, but it also explores other forms of diversity. I would like to add that the Indian community consists of people with different features, and so personal experiences may vary. However, this heartfelt book has something for everyone. Ammu and her friends will undoubtedly instill confidence in children and inspire them to be real-life superheroes!

Defenders of Diversity is a heartfelt and deeply personal story, inspired by the authorâs own experiences growing up. Dedicated to any child who has ever felt like they didnât belong, this book tells the story of a young girl navigating feelings of isolation and difference. At school, she is laughed at because of her ethnicity, but the storyâs message extends to any child who has ever felt out of place for any reason. Despite her attempts to fit in, she discovers that the key to true belonging lies in bravery and self-acceptance. The transformative moment comes when she realizes the importance of embracing her unique identity, offering readers a powerful reminder that being yourself is something to celebrate. What truly stands out are the engaging activities and discussion questions at the back of the book. These additions encourage reflection and conversation, making this book an excellent tool for families and educators to explore topics like diversity, empathy, and self-confidence.
