GREAT for MELT, GREAT for foam rolling beginners, NOT too soft!
I had heard of foam rolling and was very interested, but wasn’t sure which type to buy. I was actually on the OPTP website early last week looking for a McKenzie product for my back that I had recently injured, when I started reading about the foam rollers on the OPTP website. I read all the info and reviews there, then came to Amazon and read ALL, yes, ALL of the reviews for this soft roller and the blue and green firmer ones OPTP offers here. I was quite torn as to which type to purchase, because the OPTP site recommends the firmer blue or green one for a good place to start. Since I was injured and was in a LOT of pain (just diagnosed with Lumbosacral Facet Syndrome and having a lot of sciatic pain radiating down the front of my thigh and into the knee), PLUS I was a total foam rolling beginner, I finally chose the softer pink one. I was worried it would be too soft, but it’s PERFECT. I’ve been going to a chiropractor every day this week and was not responding very positively. I still had a tremendous amount of stabbing shooting pain, could not stand up straight or walk without a pronounced limp, and had to resort to taking pain meds which I really hate to do. I also purchased the accompanying OPTP book Pro-Roller Massage Essentials with the pink foam roller. As soon as they arrived I lay down on the roller vertically (spine down-tailbone to head, arms outspread to the sides, palms up) in the position called Chest Release in the book – it’s also mentioned in The MELT Method (I have this in e-book form) and followed Sue Hitzmann’s directions. After THE FIRST TIME I did this for about 5 minutes, when I got up I had TREMENDOUS pain relief – for the first time in a WEEK! It’s quite amazing when, if you follow the instructions in The MELT book, and do the assessment first, then do this exercise, how you can feel such a difference in your alignment and balance. I repeated this maybe 3 more times the first day, and each time it was like a “reset” for my entire body. Yesterday, I brought it to work with me and lay down on it for 5 minutes twice. I felt SO much better. Went to my chiropractor yesterday afternoon, and when I left there – limping – I was WORSE! As soon as I got home I lay down on the foam roller again and my pain lessened by about 70% after 5 minutes. I am a believer, and this thing is my new best friend! According to my chiropractor, it will take 18 more visits until I am “fixed” – to the tune of a $35 copay for each visit PLUS what my insurance doesn’t cover – such as x-rays, the awful corset thing he wants me to wear, and other treatments insurance does not deem necessary. I feel SO much better doing this ONE exercise that I went to the MELT website this morning and ordered the hand/foot kit and the DVD’s to go with my e-book and roller so I can do MORE MELTing. I am very seriously considering ditching the rest of the chiropractor visits and just doing this! I DO get SOME relief from the chiro’s treatments (electric stimulation, heat, ultrasound, and an adjustment – BUT – it HURTS and the relief only lasts for about 30 minutes. With the roller, relief is instant, it’s painless, and it LASTS much longer! I am a former skeptic turned believer, and can already see how MELTing regularly will help me not be sore after my regular workouts, un-kink and relax my quads, hams, piriformis, etc., and hopefully help me feel looser, more flexible, and PAIN-FREE! I have done a few other MELT exercises on this and it has worked perfect. I do know that THIS USED TO BE the roller that was recommended for MELT BEFORE Sue created her own roller to slightly different specs (5 inch diameter rather than 6, and possibly slightly softer), but right now, this one is working just fine. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

MELT method for pain reduction, can use this product
I have suffered with back pain since an injury, 13 years ago. It has changed my life so much, I can no longer do so many of the things I used to, just because the pain is too much. I had heard of this thing called the M.E.L.T. method. (forgive me, I can’t recall what it stands for at the moment) but many back pain specialists say that using a roller like this, can help back pain a lot…to the point many people have been able to live “normal” lives again. At this point, I try almost anything that I think could help me. It looks exactly as pictured here. Aside from having a hard time getting onto the floor to use it, I find it very helpful. According to the MELT method, this type of roller hit certain points in your back allowing for whole-body communication, rebalance the nervous system, rehydrate the connective tissue, and release compression in joints. I enjoy having something that I can do in my own home, to help my back pain. Running to doctors, chiropractors, and so on is not always fun to deal with. I use this for ten minutes, 3-4 times a week, as recommended. Now, if you look up the MELT method, you will see they sell their own, much more expensive version of this. I did not want to spend so much, so I looked for cheaper alternatives. I have not used the other one to compare, but I am happy with the quality of this one. It is firm enough, yet still comfortable to use. I’m happy with my purchase.

Sweet relief for back pain
Great for managing back pain. I mostly have pain in my upper back and behind my left shoulder (thoracic spine and trapezius muscle). I’m usually hunched over a laptop. It makes sense to use something to stretch my back the other way. First, I tried a cheap foam roller from Target. It was hard and painful to use. I saw that this brand, OPTP, had good reviews and was recommended by chiropractors. It is expensive, but my back was bothering me so much that I figured it was worth it for my health. After using it for three months, I’m glad I bought it and do recommend it.How I use it? I place it on the floor perpendicular to my body behind my upper back. My hands are behind my head with my elbows almost touching (This is key. I will get more relief this way than if my elbows were to the side). With my feet flat on the floor, I lift up my butt and start rolling up and down between my neck and lower back. Sometimes, you will hear cracks right away. Other times, you will need to push your back down on it as you roll. If you have long hair, remember to tie it back or it will get rolled under like the first time I used it, lol. Same reason you want to tuck in your shirt too.How often do I use it? I usually like to use it after I’ve gotten out of bed, after I’ve been sitting or on the computer for a while, andbefore bed.How soft is it? It’s firm enough to provide relief during the roll but not painful to use. I didn’t want to get a hard roller from my badexperience with the one from Target. So based on the reviews, I chose the pink one which is supposed to be softer than the blue one. The dimensions are 35.5â long and 5.5â wide. The pain in my back is still there (does back pain ever go away?), but it’s better than before I used this foam roller. I also use theAncient Minerals Magnesium Oil Ultra Spray with OptiMSM to help manage the pain. I like it so far and will review it soon.

So amazing after my mastectomy!
My husband bought a foam roller years ago and Iâm pretty sure Iâve used it way more than him over the years. Then I was thrown into the worst year of my life after being diagnosed with breast cancer and I began physical therapy after having surgery. My PT put me on this particular roller and OMG I had to have one!! She said many of her clients have the same reactions as it perfect in every way. So soft yet keeps its form and long to allow me use it for many various exercises. I love it so much I use it three times a day. I also have traveled with it. I just through a yoga mat strap around it and itâs easy to carry over my shoulder. Highly recommend!ðð»ðð»
