“Let Food Be Thy Medicine, and Let Medicine Be Thy Food”-Hippocrates
I have always loved that quote by Hippocrates and this book is the perfect guide to explaining how to let food be your medicine! I consider myself to be pretty health conscious, and knowledgeable about the importance of the right foods for your health. I am constantly surprised by friends and family that honestly do not understand how much damage they are doing to their bodies by eating the wrong foods. I love how the book explains how different foods work within the body! It explains things like digestion, absorption, and metabolism in a way that is easy to understand for everyone! Vitamins, minerals, proteins, carbs, fats and the roles they play and how to incorporate all these thing in the best way possible are lined out! Even though it is very thorough, it is not monotonous, nor does it go into too much detail that will lose the reader attention. I have found many similar books that go into far too much detail and the average person looking for quick answers isn’t likely to continue reading. When a book is straight, to the point, and easy to understand, I feel it serves a better purpose for those just learning to take control of their health! It is also a great reference book for those who are already health knowledgeable and conscious! The next time I am having a conversation with someone who doesn’t really understand the importance of the right foods in managing their health, I know just what book to recommend!I received this book in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Tons of Information for a Healthier YOU
I am loving this book and all the information in it. It is packed with so much useful stuff. For years I have struggled to lose weight and couldn’t figure out why because I exercise daily and I have been a vegetarian for most of my life. This book pretty much gave me a lot of reasons why I could be having problems. Blood tests come back and I’m low on a lot of vital vitamins and minerals but I never thought it meant anything until I read this book. I count my calories every day and never drink calories and now I realize that could be another factor. This book tells you why each vitamin and mineral is important and what it does for your body. It has ailments and what to do to avoid them. Like anxiety for example, it says to avoid caffeine and alcohol as those two things make anxiety worse. It also includes many other ailments like cancer, dandruff, depression, bruises, cold sores, colds, headaches, hypertension, and more. It says exactly what vitamins and minerals to avoid and what diets you should consider to lower your chances of certain diseases. There is also so much information on many different diets out there too as well as foods you should eat and avoid. The book is very easy to read, isn’t boring at all, and it’s very easy to understand. This is definitely a book I’m enjoying and I am so glad I came across it. I’ve learned a lot about my own health and so many things I’ve been doing wrong. I highly recommend it! *I received this book free in exchange for an honest review*

    Very well written
The book Nutrition Facts is very informative. It is divided into five chapters and they are color coded for easy reference. It starts with nutrition and health. In this chapter the author talks about what is nutrition, historical facts, how nutrition relates to growth, reproduction, health and metabolism. What healthy means, food as medicine and medicines with food and food versus medicine. Every topic is very well covered with lots of information. The second chapter, the body, covers different body functions and body parts in relation to nutrition. In next chapter author talks about nutrients, explaining every nutrient and its role, sources of these nutrients. The chapter on eating explains foods, drinks and diets. Different kinds of foods and comparison between them and their health benefits. Different diets, how they work, what is the effect of each diet. The last chapter is about ailments and allergies. This chapter explains how different foods can effect a person. Similarly, a food can start an allergic reaction in a person. How to read nutritional labels on products is also mentioned and there are conversion tables as well. All in all, every topic is very well explained and written in this book. I find this book very helpful and informative. I was given the opportunity to try this book for free for my unbiased opinion.

Very readable and fairly comprehensive. (Karen: include potassium in your next edition)
I read this cover to cover. Not sure why I found it so interesting and readable but it was.Nutritional deficiencies or toxicities are the most common diseases in America yet almost never diagnosed. (The way our society and medical system have evolved, eating well and knowing how to eat well is your job and it’s nobody’s job to help you. As a Family Practice doctor I am sad about that and don’t know exactly what to do about it. We don’t get paid to talk to or advise our patients in the current system. We are supposed to refer you to a dietician or nutritionist when we diagnose a problem but then insurance usually won’t pay for the consultation.)This book is not the most complete work available but is probably ideal for those who read at high school or college level and don’t already have significant nutritional knowledge. That probably includes most doctors. This book is a good launch point: If you find an area of interest to you, consider Wkipedia (or examine.com for supplements) to delve deeper. USDA.com has an immense database on food and nutrition but it’s complicated and the guidelines are often bent to meet political expectations (Selling grain, making money for the processed food complains and creating illness for the medical and pharmaceutical industries to profit from all seem to be influences.)One final point: Strangely, potassium is not included in this book in the nutrient section. I’ve read somewhere that 98% of Americans don’t get enough potassium. would seem to be important to put potassium in the next edition
