Book review for “Acceptance is my Superpower“
This is a wonderful book about acceptance!
Lisa is seven years old and was teased by a classmate because she wears glasses. She tells her Mum that she wants to be like the other kids. Thank goodness for smart mothers! Her Mum says, “We all have our differences making the world an interesting place.“ Both her parents help her to look at differences. From different types of physical characteristics to different types of fruit!
The book goes on to explore with Lisa and her family how people are different, “ We all have our differences,” Mum said, “it’s what makes us so unique from the way we look and think to the languages we speak.”
Physical diversity is explored. There’s Uncle Jimmy who uses a wheelchair. Grandma talks with sign language using her hands. A friend who is adopted. All are examples of physical diversity.
I love how her Dad explains, “To accept each other‘s differences,” Dad said, “Is called diversity, and it means we must treat everyone with respect and courtesy.“
This book has lovely illustrations that add to the storyline. I like how the writing of the story rhymes! This book is pleasant to look at and fun to read! Best of all the lesson is learned about differences and diversity. “…acceptance is our superpower and together we will grow.”
Be sure to check the very back of the book for a little exercise of writing six things down that you love about yourself. A good exercise for both the adult and child to do together!

Important message for children about diversity
I read Kindness is my Superpower and Breathing is my Superpower and they’re both great books for children, so I was happy to read this book as well.
Acceptance is My Superpower is about a girl who wears glasses and gets upset one day when a friend teases her about wearing them. When she goes home, her parents explain to her that we are all different in our own way and the world would be a boring place if we were all the same. Our differences can be from our clothes to our looks and the subjects we like and the the things we like to do, but it shouldn’t matter.
This is a wonderful way for children to learn about acceptance. It teaches them that it’s okay to be different and that we should accept people the way they are.

    A HIDDEN POWER
This lovely picture book teaches elementary school children two important lessons. First, we are all unique and that makes us special. Second, our differences can be accepted as strengths (superpowers). When we unite to share our special traits, we make all of us stronger.
The rhymes are sharp and fun to read. The multicultural illustrations celebrate physical differences like hair, eye and skin color. Deafness, and physical handicaps can be turned into unique talents like using sign language and playing on teams with disabilities. By talking openly with others, bullying can be eliminated. What was once seen as a weakness may become a strength or “superpower.”
Highly suggested as a read-aloud book for group discussion.

A lovely book which is essential for children to read and apply
Alicia Ortego has written a series of seven Superpower books. All are delightful, easy, and fun for children to read. All teach them lessons they should learn and apply. Wouldn’t the world be a far better place, a happier place, if we recognized that diversity is good because it makes life interesting, makes us think, and helps us improve? Scholars have pointed out that the Hebrew Bible begins with the creation of just one man and one woman to emphasize that we are all descendants from the same source. Alicia Ortego’s beautiful “Acceptance is my Superpower” makes this and other points clear for children.

My 3 and 2 year old loved this book. They’re used to drawing parallels from their reads and asking questions, and this book has plenty of lovely opportunities for this. Lovely little book.

Plain language explains a very sensitive subject like bulling in the school. And special thanks for the exercise in the end: “things I love about myself.” This book teaches to look into our unique differences and accept them. And same accept other differences.
Good quality paper. This book could be awesome to read in a class, when teacher explains and then all work together.
I would recommend this book for sure.

I will use this book for teaching kindergarten children about the acceptance of others and that we treat everyone with dignity, kindness and respect. I like how the pictures reflect diversity. This book will promote dialouge amongst young children to share ideas to greater understand and appreciate others around them and no matter who you are, you are capable of many things.
