I wanted this book for FOREVER and finally got my hands on it on Black Friday. Wow, it exceeded my expectations! It goes into so much detail and is so informative and written so simply! The photos are amazing and are printed on high quality paper with good quality ink and my favourite part is that itâs a hardback!!! The cover is gorgeous but it does scratch quite easily. I just love this book so much, itâs elevated my cooking so much now that I understand which spices go with which and how to get the best flavours out of them. It even has recipes from all over the world in it too. Itâs a must read for anyone who wants to improve their cooking and flavourings, for sure!

There are plenty of recipe books that use spices, but I’ve never before seen a comprehensive book on spices that talks about the “why” of spices. The book has tables that explain the groupings of spices and detailed description of what each spice does (what flavor it adds), how to use it, where it come from, what creates its taste. The book also includes enough recipes to get you started.A really well done book

I think the book will be useful and I love the imagery and colors. I like how the sections are structured in the book like the map of regions that give you a general flavor profile, a spice blend and the essential, supporting and supplementary spices. The spice profiles of the spice periodic table are useful too.Overall I think it’s a great tool in becoming a better cook and understanding complimentary flavor profiles.My book did arrive damaged. Which sucks. It’s minor, but annoying. May have been damaged during shipping.

This book is visually great and a wonderful, fact filled, reference. Unfortunately, it is not formatted well for kindle. I tried reading it on my iPad kindle app and the pages act more like a .pdf rather than an actual kindle book. A great referenceâ¦buy it in hard copy, not on kindle.

Itâs very helpful for people looking to better understand how to season their dishes, and how to compliment flavours. There are a few recipes and quite a few spice rubs from different regions ( Caribbean, Africa, Middle East etc). If you are looking for a recipe book, donât buy this. If you are looking for an encyclopedia, a tool to further your cooking, I 100% recommend this book! My brother and oldest son are waiting to borrow it. Iâm just not ready to part with it yet!
