Why, regardless of the various advances in science and expertise over the previous few a long time, does our well being solely appear to be getting worse? Why, regardless of a lot time and vitality spent finding out the meals we eat, are we extra confused than ever about vitamin – what good vitamin appears like, and what it may well do for our well being?
Colin Campbell’s first ebook, The China Examine – with 3 million copies bought (and rising!) – laid out the exhaustive proof for the entire meals, plant-based food regimen because the healthiest strategy to eat. His New York Occasions best-selling follow-up, Complete, addressed the widespread scientific emphasis on reductionism that has saved our deal with the discrete behaviors of particular person nutritional vitamins and vitamins within the meals we eat, relatively than food regimen’s synergistic results on well being.
Now, in The Way forward for Vitamin: An Insider’s Have a look at the Science, Why We Maintain Getting It Mistaken, and Begin Getting It Proper, Campbell takes on the establishment of vitamin itself: the historical past of how we bought locked in to specializing in “illness care” over well being care; the widespread affect of our reverence of animal protein on our interpretation of scientific proof; the best way even well-meaning organizations can restrict what science is and isn’t taken severely; and what we are able to do to make sure the way forward for vitamin is completely different than its previous.
The Way forward for Vitamin affords an interesting deep-dive backstage of the sector of vitamin – with implications each for our well being and for the apply of science itself.

Indispensible for anyone who really wants to understand the nexus of nutrition and health.
We are in a transition in nutrition and Dr. T. Colin Campbell has been in the forefront of this for many years, in particular since he stepped out of the shadows of scientific research and wrote a popular account of his life’s biggest project, The China Study, complete with all the scientific references for those who are so inclined. That style continues. He addresses the general reader, but for those who are interested all the references are included.
His combination of humility and plain common sense with scientific rigor is very appealing, and makes difficult material easily accessible. This book is the culmination of a lifetime of work and will be a go-to work of reference for many years to come. I would argue that before Campbell, there was no science of nutrition. Nutrition as most of us learned it was a set of normative assumptions based on the accident of historical discovery of different nutrients, but with Campbell began a rigorous scientific approach and he laid the foundation for a paradigm change that is slowly getting underway. This book brings everything together that was developed in The China Study and then fleshed out further in Whole, but here it is reframed once more as a direction for the future.
Campbell teaches the practical meaning of a holistic approach to nutrition (he likes to call it wholistic) and this goes hand in hand with the more holistic approach to health in Lifestyle Medicine. The gist of it is that there really is a pretty clear picture emerging of what makes for a truly healthy diet, which Campbell has dubbed a Whole Foods, Plant-Based diet. Arguably, you could consider it “healthy vegan,” but I like Campbell’s term better, although “plant-based” is now being abused as much as vegan, so the consumer should be very conscious of the encroachment of commercial claims, which as usually are often misleading.
The upshot is, if you’re serious about health and nutrition, do not skip these books, they are the anchor in the science of nutrition for the now rapidly growing field of Lifestyle Medicine. It really does turn out that with only minor variations, there really is one diet that can help prevent most typical chronic diseases that are all caused by diet, such as heart disease, Type 2 Diabetes, kidney disease, and cancer to a degree also. Campbell’s work started with his interest in liver cancer and again he brings all these strands together in this book.

Best Contribution To Field Of Nutrition In Centuries
This is truly Colin Campbell’s greatest work, and in my opinion it’s the greatest literary contribution to the field of nutrition and general medicine in a century. But be prepared to have your most basic beliefs challenged. As a cancer survivor who 20 years ago used a whole food plant based diet to put my cancer into remission, thus escaping chemotherapy which would have bankrupted me and set me on a course of certain death, a lot of what Campbell presents in this book is very personal to me. If only I had known as much 30 years ago. I would never have had cancer in the first place. I’m also pleased to see someone finally take a strong stand on the most misunderstood aspect of the modern diet, and something that I myself have been suspecting all along. It’s not the fat or cholesterol in meat that is the problem, it’s the animal protein. Yes, that’s right. That precious macro nutrient that most people associate with the essence of life. Yes, that so called “HIGH QUALITY” protein in meat (the biggest lie in the field on nutrition). The data demonstrating this has always been right there staring at us in the face all along, indeed it has been for centuries as Campbell points out. But few people are able to admit it. I recommend this book as “REQUIRED READING” for every nutritionist, oncologist, and medical doctor in the country. I also recommend Colin Campbell for the position of surgeon general of the US with the authority to tell medical and nutritional schools to rewrite their textbooks to a include a proper, I repeat “PROPER”, presentation of how nutrition is central to human health, and how current beliefs in modern nutrition promote today’s modern epidemic of obesity, cancer, diabetes, and heart disease. This book is a “MUST READ” for anyone who is interested in maximizing their quality of life while here on this earth.

This book is the best guide to nutrition for whole plant eating people and anybody else that is considering this diet. T Collin Campbell is the real thing and you are getting the knowledge from perhaps the worlds highest authority on the subject. After he is the man who wrote the China Study. T Collin Campbell is also a very talented writer in the way that he conveys knowledge and gets you to reflect on the science. There is something here for everybody irregardless of your present level of scientific knowledge.
