Excellent yoga sequencing book for new teachers, seasoned teachers, and practitioners
One of the best parts of Sage Rountree’s books is that she approaches a subject that can be a little woo (yoga) with clarity and logic, and she offers a rationale for her approach and suggestions. The Art of Yoga Sequencing is no exception. In this wonderful new book, she offers clear and thorough sequences and shares the reasons she sequences the way she does (so you can emulate and build your own sequences). I specifically love that she offers ways to make poses sweeter, spicier, or just more interesting, and I also ADORE the beautiful, diverse models she uses throughout the text. This is not a book for just one style of yoga: any type of yoga teacher would gain a lot from this text. In fact, that’s sort of the point! This is another important book for yoga teachers to add to their toolkit of resources, and it will be used, a lot, by said readers.

This is the Yoga sequencing book for NOW
The Art of Yoga Sequencing is the yoga sequencing book for our current time. Yoga in the West is undergoing a “re-union” with the core principles of breath and movement for ANY body. Part 1 (including the preface and introduction) sets the context with Sage’s inclusive philosophy of yoga sequencing. DON’T skip it. As a yoga teacher, you might just want to get straight to the sequencing (per the title) in Parts 3 and 4, and yes – the recipes (Sage is the master of food analogies) are great and easy to follow as well as adaptable to your own style. The culmination is a well-rounded framework for the most common types of yoga to help you improve the inclusiveness in your classes and yourself.

I’ve tried other books on sequencing
I’ve tried other books on sequencing, but this book is the equivalent of “Sequencing for Dummies”. It is easy to understand complete with wonderful images and explanations that don’t require a degree in Anatomy. Thank you for the gift that keeps on giving! Grateful, Heather O’Dell

    Remarkable Resource for the Professional
The book was well-researched and explained by expert Rountree. Unfortunately, it was far beyond my understanding of yoga as a (very) casual practitioner. Someone regularly leading classes would find this a remarkable resource, especially with the additional templates and information available on her website.

I’m a yoga teacher and read several books on yoga sequencing and creating yoga classes. This is what I have been looking for and finally found!! I love the theory part (different types of movement and how they complement each other) and the practical part – with models representing different body types and fitness/flexibility levels. I love the positive and empowering language of the Author. The many variations to accommodate different levels. The approach that helps to create yoga practice that addresses all body parts and all movement types. This book gives you scaffolding to create your own unique classes, no matter what type of yoga you practice or teach. (and even if you are not a teacher and want to improve your personal yoga practice, this book will be an amazing guide!)
    6 stars out of 5!!!
