30 Fun projects based on Bible stories; both Tanakh (Old Testament) 18 and New Testament 12
I got this new (2024) book designed for young children to learn more about the Bible to verify that it was in fact true to the Bible and had good, easily doable activities linked to Bible stories. The short answer is: it is both true to the Bible and has good linked activities. But a complete review should include 1) information about the sturdiness of the book itself, 2) what supplies are needed, 3) what activities are included and 4) what age children would find these activities interesting, fun. And 5) where could you do these activities.1) This 63 page, about 3/16 inch (4.4 mm) thick activity book is built to take hard use: has a smooth glossy cover, easily wiped clean with a damp tissue or paper towel. The pages are finished in a smooth matte, easily cleaned surface, are generous size ( 8.5″x10.5″) with full-color pictures and readable type (although I, being an older geezer, find a magnifying glass helpful).2) At the back of the book is a list of 25 essential supplies of which I (and you too, probably) have 23 already. Individual projects/activities will need additional things from the grocery store, craft store or hobby center.3) The 30 stories and fun projects: these are essentially in the order they are found in the OT and NT:1. Days of creation2. Sneaky snake sock puppet3. God’s rainbow promise but the colors need to curve with red on the outside and purple on the inside4. Blanket tent5. Colorful T-shirt6. Pretzel basket7. Hopping frog8. Folding scroll9. Friendship bracelet10. Prayer jar11. Heartstring art12. Craft sticks slingshot13. No sew sheep14. simple bread recipe15. Paper plate crown16. Fiery night light17. Paper plate Lion18. 3-D fish19. Star ornament (NT)20. Modeling clay maze (NT)21. Handprint dove (NT)22. Disciple paper chain (NT)23. tissue paper flower (NT)24. Banana boat dessert (NT)25. Dirty pig (NT)26. Hosanna palm branch (NT)27. Church bank (NT)28. Scrub a dub soap (NT)29. Stained glass cross (NT)30. Coffee filter Angel (NT)Projects include things to make and take home out of paper, cloth, string, etc. also food to make and eat including bread and banana split dessert. Some of the projects need to extend over several days to let paint or glue dry although I think if you use spray paint and hot melt glue (adult use) you won’t need to wait. The projects will teach real-life skills in making things: cutting, folding, pasting/gluing, painting, tying knots, making bread, etc. True: some you might keep, most you will toss and some you will eat.4) The publisher suggests children ages 4 to 8 years would be the appropriate audience; I’m thinking more of 3 to 7 years. But hey, the children you deal with–your own or others–are all different and who doesn’t like fresh-baked bread or a banana split? And 5) I suggest to do these activities at home, at Hebrew schools, church/Sunday school, afterschool clubs or Vacation Bible School (VBS)In conclusion highly recommend to work with your own children or groups of children.

Craft projects based on Bible storiesâ for younger kids
The publisher says these projects are aimed at kids ages 4-8 yrs. I estimated them to appeal to kids ages 4-6 yrs. The crafts are not difficult, with varying degrees of supervision required. Some can be done independently. Some can be done quickly in a one-hour Sunday School class if an adult does a lot of prep. The instructions are well written, with a supplies list for each project. Most require glue and construction paper. Supplies are items you would ordinarily have on hand. When the craft requires googly-eyes, instructions describe how to make the eyes using white construction paper and black markers. The 3 food crafts might require a trip to the grocery store. Pretzel basket = Baby Mosesâ basket; Banana boat dessert = Jesus bade the waves be still; Simple bread = bread for Elijah. One reviewer mentioned that food crafts may not be appropriate for a group, given the possibility of food allergies.Cartoon illustrations have some characters with pink skin, but most have tan or brown skin.My opinion: this is a solid offering from well-respected Zondervan Press.Friends who have taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School in a mainstream Protestant church report:The person who teaches younger kids (ages 3-5) thought this would be a great resource for Sunday School, VBS, and for his home. The person who teaches older kids (ages 7-11) thought these crafts would be at too low a level for her students.Rating: excellentMy scale: 5 star = excellent (or has a special feature), 4 star = good/ very good (does what it should). I rarely use the term âperfectâ and I rarely assign 5 stars.
