I finally found the one!
After nearly two decades of searching for the perfect matte, messy hair product, I finally found one that checks all the boxes. Strong hold, lightweight, no flakes, not slimy, ultra matte with no greasy look, and it overall makes your hair look truly “messy” with the perfect amount of fluff and texture. I have thin hair and products often make it look stringy. This product doesnât. It actually makes my hair look thicker and fuller! Now I just have to hope it doesn’t get discontinued by the time I run out.

Decent product
I decided to try out a different hair styling product. I typically use the Dove molding paste, but this caught my eye. It has a very nice and light scent, and it has a pretty nice hold. It is much more of a lotion than the Dove product I use, and I think this has a different hold and texture purpose, but it’s good none the less. I will stick with my Dove for my everyday go-to, but I like having this one for a fallback in case I just feel like using something different for whatever reason.

It does not leave your hair crunchy! I use this on my long unruly curls, and my son who is absolutely against anything that makes his curls crunchy became obsessed with it! He skates and sweats and this product still keeps his hair in place and his curls in tact! It sticks through sweat but does wash out easy! The smell is amazing compared to a lot of products! Itâs also not overly expensive, doesnât kill the pocket!

Husbandâs Favorite
I have been buying this stuff for my husband for over 7 years, it is his favorite hair putty. He likes how it goes on easy and doesnât make hair look super glossy or greasy if you use the right amazing. My husband tried the Dove hair putty but found that it was harder to âspreadâ on the hair than this. Also it has a pleasant light smell. We always stock up on a bunch, whenever there is any sort of sale on them.

I’ve been trying to find the older Garnier “Surf Hair” in the round tub but it seems to have been discontinued. This product is similar: Smells similar, smaller container, more expensive; but slightly sticky and a stiffer hold that doesn’t seem to work as well. It doesn’t give quite the same effect of controlling the stray hairs but still looking like there’s no product in your hair like the older product; and nothing I’ve found has been able to replicate it. Head to head with the previous version, this version just isn’t as good. It’s disappointing that they replaced the older formula with this one; and there are even reports that Garnier has discontinued this product as well.
