Just Delightful
Many years ago, I read most of Simon Brett’s theatrical mysteries. Being a former actress myself, I enjoyed them thoroughly. I discovered this new series on Kindle, and decided to give it a try. I am glad I did. Although completely different from his past books, the new team of Sandra and Jude retain the author’s lighthearted touch. The story of The Body on the Beach is filled with engaging characters and enough twists and turns to keep the cozy mystery reader satisfied. I will continue this series as it becomes available…there are many details about the main protagonists that have been hinted at. I look forward to finding them out.

Quite good.
This book, the first in the series, was quite entertaining. I look forward to reading the next one.

looking forward to the series
A good start with lots of room to grow in character development. Hopefully, we will learn more about Carole’s and Jude’s past along with some romance.

Entertaining cozy mystery
Started this series because I quite enjoyed (most) of the Mrs.; Pargeter series. Overall, I like this one better. More fully-fleshed out characters. I like that the author doesn’t take himself too seriously.

Two Unlikely Friends Go Sleuthing
This is the first Simon Brett book that I have read. Was happy it was available on Kindle so I was able to read the first book in the Fethering mystery series. Carole Seddon who has recently retired from the Home Office is looking forward to a nice quiet retirement in the costal village of Fethering, England. Two events occur that change her wishes.A new neighbor moves in next door named just Jude. Jude is the opposite of Carole and is unconventional. The other event is when Carole takes her dog on a morning walk on the the beach. She discovers a body on the beach. She calls the police (after washing her dog) and they investigate. However, no body can be located. Carole and Jude team up to solve the mystery. One of my favorite parts is when Jude talks Carole into going into a pub. Carole keeps telling herself that she is not a pub person. After more visits to the village pub, she is on a first name basis with the pub owner. She still is saying that she is not the sort to visit a pub. She does seem to like her white wine. The best part of “The Body On The Beach’ for me is the relationship and adventures of unlikely friends who go sleuthing. The atmosphere of the costal village of Fethering added greatly to the book too. Have downloaded the next book in the series “Death On The Downs”.

An entertaining English mystery read…
Loved the twists and turns of plot. Brett feeds his readers the clues steadily but never too many so that the suspense builds. Lovely characters too– most entertainingly drawn from small town Fethering or any small English town from those I have read about in the English mystery genre.

Cozy Without Being Stupid
I was stuck in the house recuperating and looking for an easy read that would keep me entertained. I like mysteries with lots puzzle pieces that eventually fit together. I hate mysteries where the red herring makes more sense than the actual murder. I also like characters to feel real. Some of the characters were cliches but the two main ones were interesting enough to make me want to read the next one in the series. (Spoiler) I would like to know Judeâs full name.

Odd Couple of Detective Fiction
THE BODY ON THE BEACH by Simon Brett introduces readers to an odd couple of amateur sleths who will puzzle you, while providing several hours of pure entertainment.Jude (free spirit) and Carole (establishment uptight) don’t have a thing in common except living next door to each other. They manage to forge ahead and solve the crime in spite of their difference in this first of the Fethering Mysteries.A fun, fun read with slick prose for an expert.Nash Black, author of QUALIFYING LAPS.

Most enjoyable book, easy read, great cast of interesting people, look forward to the series, Jude and Carole are well written as the main characters, out to solve the mystery.

Half the town seemed to be chasing the dragon . And this village is supposed to be for the retired wealthy so why is there a housing estate right in the middle of it. This book is supposed to be a cosy but you wouldnât see Miss Marple walking down the street ( in fact go read a Christie those books are good). This book is really strange although I couldnât finish it , I honestly donât see the point of it, or what itâs trying to be. I wish they had sub-genres for so called cosy mysteries and then I might know what I was getting into. This book was really silly nonsense, really there are better ways to waste money and much better books. Confusing and boring. The list of bad things I could say are endless. Suffice it to say I didnât like it.

This is the first Simon Brett novel I’ve read and I must admit I did enjoy it. I found Carole likeable but irritating at the same time and I thought Jude the mysterious character you are meant to think her as.The basic storyline is good. I would never have guessed at the eventual culprit and I thought the outcome was good. I don’t think that this is a particularly gripping read, but at the same time I found it held my attention and was an easy read.Good book will be reading more in future.

Another excellent story by Simon Brett. I have read all his books in the Mrs P series and really enjoyed them. I came across this title by chance and am pleased I did. Great characters and a good storyline but more importantly another series discovered to get stuck into.Looking forward to reading more.
