It’s Randall Munroe. ‘Nuff said.
I stumbled across xkcd when I was studying engineering in college. I delayed many homework assignments working through the backlog. I started reading the what if blog from the beginning. Randall Munroe has a way with words, and a way with numbers. Seeing him applying many of the very concepts and technical I was studying in school in creative and unusual ways while having fun with the process was a very enlightening experience compared to the generally dry and dull approach in most textbooks. Come to think of it Munroe textbooks would probably be a game changer.
It’s fun. It’s sciency. It’s a great book.

Perfect balance between silly questions, comedic timing, and actually interesting science stuff
I can’t say enough good things about this. They balance everything really well. I fully enjoyed the first book and the second seems to be more of the same in all the best ways. It’s the type of comedy that I really enjoy. Please read the sample and if it is any bit interesting just get the book. I love the “citation needed” gag attached to mostly well-understood and every-day things. The footnotes are really fun to read.
Kindle edition is alright, the highlighting features is cool, you can see how many other people highlighted the same passage and it all stays organized. If I didn’t already have the Kindle I would buy physical, but then again, I plan to move soon-ish so every little bit of space-saving helps.
Just get this book. Why are you still reading this review? Yes you. Stop. Buy the book. It’s way more interesting than this. I promise. Just go. Oh, maybe you skipped to the end to see if this paragraph has anything interesting. Nope. Read the first two paragraphs, then buy the book. Ok. Bye.

still a great read
Not as unique as the original, and the questions are getting a bit repetitive, but still a great read. Fun, intelligent, and a bit wacky. Loved it!

Top Tier Science Humor for XKCD fans
If you know what XKCD is, you have probably already decided to buy this book, and you don’t need this review. If you don’t know what it is, check it out online, then come back and buy this book. And buy the first one too. Actually, just buy all his books (we did), they are all excellent, and my tween/teen kids love to re-read them every few months. Randal Munroe always delivers top tier science humor, while secretly educating you in a super fun and amusing way. Is 5 stars enough? No, it’s not, but it will have to do.

Much like the previous title in the series, What If? 2 offers a plethora of insightful knowledge about our physical reality in the form of a bunch of detailed answers to the most absurd questions anyone could think to ask. Recommended to anyone desiring to learn more about the universe while having great fun.

While What-If 1 was a surprising hit, the second one definitely built on the hype of first one and kept the going with the base thought, that made the first one so good. It’s really like ‘don’t fix what isn’t broken’.
I really enjoyed it and highly recommend to anyone who liked the first one. Even without reading the first one, it’s a great standalone book too.

An absolute delight. Fans of his XKCD comics or the first “What If?” book will find themselves right at home here. Munroe masterfully tackles real, often bizarre questions with answers that are grounded in a rigorous scientific approach, yet they brim with absurdity and wit. Each entry is accompanied by Randall’s signature drawings, adding a visual charm that enhances the overall experience.
What I particularly enjoyed about this book is its format. The entries are concise, making it a perfect read for those spare moments – whether you’re commuting by train, sitting on the loo, taking a brief lunch break, or just relaxing. The bookâs structure lends itself well to both sporadic reading and binge sessions. It’s not just entertaining; it’s a journey through a landscape where science meets the imagination.
For anyone who loves a blend of humor, science, and art, “What If? 2” is an essential addition to your bookshelf. It’s a testament to Munroe’s unique ability to make complex scientific concepts both accessible and wildly entertaining. Five stars for an engaging, thought-provoking, and thoroughly enjoyable read!
