Normal Mylar Baloon thickness emergency sleeping bag
This survival bag comes in a drawstring pouch, which is about 4 inches long and 2 inches diameter. The pouch has an attached whistle, but it requires a huge amount of air to make a sound, so I wouldn’t have this be your only emergency whistle. That being said, I bot this for the bag, and the whistle was just an added bonus. The bag is neatly folded within the pouch and unfolds into a sleeping bag which is the same size as a standard large rectangular sleeping bag. It has black stripes conveniently showing you which sides are sealed and which one is open. I am 6’1″ and was able to fully fit inside the bag with the top still wrapped around my head.Unlike traditional emergency blankets, the sealed edges on this bag make it so you don’t have to worry about gaps as you try an wrap it around someone. Once someone is inside, the only air going in or out will be along the top edge. will also work to provide some waterproofing and insulation with a traditional bag inside of it.If you have a flat surface clear of sharp objects, it is possible to fold the bag back up and fit inside the drawstring pouch again. Just make sure to get the air out of it before folding it up.As I stated in the description, the bag is the same thickness and material as a mylar balloon. It will resist simple punctures, but I recommend making sure you don’t have any sharp objects on you or on the ground as you use this bag – to prevent puncture or tearing.

Survivalist gear: tent or sleeping bag, your choice
I was surprised to receive these survival sleeping bags without instructions. I know from owning a similar product that it could be used as a tent OR a sleeping bag. I see no mention of using these as tents, so they are apparently made to be used as sleeping bags. Only. They pack down to a super compact size. They fill up one hand when packed. They are VERY lightweight. Having never had an emergency that required actually using these, I don’t know if you can repack them compactly once you’ve used them. I kind of doubt it though. They ARE waterproof. They use heat reflective foil to reflect your body heat back to you when used as a sleeping bag. They will indeed keep you warm in the winter as long as you stay dry. I’m a prepper. I got these for my but-IN bag. They take up very little space and weigh nearly nothing. When you need them, they can save your life.To use it as a sleeping bag, unfold it to its 84 inch by 36 inch size, then crawl inside. Make sure water can’t get in either end, and you’re snug as a bug in a rug. It forms a tube open on both ends. They almost don’t mention it, but if you string a rope up between two trees or similar supports, passing the rope through the tube, you create a small tent. It works. I’ve done it.This is doomsday prep stuff. If you worry about natural or manmade disasters, this is some very cost-effective peace of mind for you and your family!

Useful emergency survival bag–Good Value, but not very top quality
Twenty years ago I spent the night shivering in a wet thinsulate jacket in the wilderness after a fresh heavy snow and temp down to 15. I learned hypothermia is not an easy way to go. I bought space blankets and other items to make several survival kits stored in small ziplocks. The mylar space blankets made back then are heavier and thicket than these survival bags, but were blankets not bags. These bags are easy enough to open and unfold, but after unfolding it, are NOT easy to fold back up and fit in the stuff sack. One side and the bottom were sealed together with a black plastic strip-I don’t know whether it is adhesive tape or a thermowelded strip. They bags are generously large, but too thin–making them fragile to tears; I don’t know if the sealed edges stay sealed or if they are like tape and open up like one reviewer said. They do have an odor when you open them, but it is not strong–I don’t think I would open it to air and then try to fold it back up and struggle to get it back in the stuff bag. These are emergency blankets–they are not designed to be used multiple times. I haven’t compared brands or alternatives but assume there are more expensive stronger built bags. These bags are well worth the price–they are only $5 1/2 bucks each in a 4 pack. I wouldn’t treat these as multiple use-they are meant to be kept in vehicle in the northern states, to be used if your car goes off the road during a bad snow storm, and the temperature drops. Beware of wearing your clothes within–you will get sweated up because the bag is not at all porous. Getting out of a bag with wet clothing in bitter weather would be both dangerous and painful. Hypothermia hurts.I recommend the bag–and a four pack is a good idea–keep one in each of your vehicles, and another in whatever pouch or bag or pack you use on your forays into the woods. For the price this is a good deal I plan to keep this with a space blanket, candle, waterproof matches, butane lighter, in my fanny pack when I go off into the woods late fall and winter.
