He studies on wildlife relocation and on how the rising populations of untamed species in city areas are blurring the traces between home and wild animals. Our Wild Calling makes the case for safeguarding, selling, and making a sustainable and shared habitat for all creatures—not out of worry, however out of affection.

LOVED This Book
This is a fantastic read. I’ve read Louv’s Last Child in the Woods, so I knew to expect great things. This did not disappoint. I love the mix of personal stories with science and psychology. Expertly researched, beautifully written, and just delightful. Highly recommend.

The importance of empathizing with animals
Louv is a master story teller, but there are many of those, and his great contribution is the unique ability to use good stories to make important points. It is not the stories themselves that make the book, but his ability to create the intellectual settings of the stories so that they help the reader understand the argument. His mission is to help people connect with nature, here helping us communicate with animals. Most naturalists have many such stories, but rarely communicate them. The warp and woof of his tapestry involves threads of authentic stories woven together with his compassionate understanding of human and animal perspectives. The book is a creative and elegant effort to help us better understand and connect to nature.

Informative – a bit over my head though
Like this informative book but a lot of the information is scientifically over my head. Felt like I needed a dictionary to understand some of the chapters.

Rich, informative book about our expanding relationship with animals.
Being a new yet huge fan of Richard Louv, I was not sure what would be revealed in this book after reading Last Child in the Woods which explored the vast importance of our children being immersed into natural environments. Although I am only half way through this read, I am deeply moved by the honesty and truth shared by the author in his experience with animals not only through his dog Banner, but in his relationship with snakes, and through the interviews of people and their animal connections. Mr. Louv brings a fresh and informative awareness to our connection with the animal world.

Outstanding! A must read!
Rich Louv is an extraordinary writer and Our Wild Calling is another one of his deeply thought-provoking books that look at our connections with the natural world. I did four summers of wolf research and have had pets since I was a child. The new research verifies everything I already know and have experienced about connections with our animal brothers. Anything written by Rich Louv is a “must read.”

This book is need of the hour! We often see news reports of a wild animal entering human residency and preying on humans. The reason? We have for many decades encroached on their dwelling and now they have no residence of their own. They come out on walk on the streets which was once their own! Humans for years have taken away what wasn’t rightfully theirs. And this book shows us how and why we need to bring in semblance in the ecosystem. The author details encounters with wild. He mentions his encounter which impacted him profoundly. The black fox showed a distant kinship writes the author and throughout the book we read about many such mesmerizing encounters that will blow your mind. The book shows us a side of the world that we have neglected or forgotten. This narrative has a profoundly moving and has a positive impact on the readers. The author mentions how out of love we ought preserve natural habitat and mull over sustainable, sharing living. The book is transformative and inspirational. The story of sea urchin and octopus will remain in my mind rent free.
