A slightly less grimdark far future
If you’re a 40k fan, you know how bleak a setting it can be, and if that’s what you’re looking for, this is NOT your book. This read that moves so fast it’s gotta be painted red, and has fun the entire time.

Fun and quick read from the 40k universe
Adeptus Mechanicus v. Orks.Takes place on a forgeworld under siege by the green tide.Follow two points of view, one from either side, and a secret third main character revealed later in the book.Read this novel if you enjoy battle from the ork perspective. And want to read about ork hierarchy, weapons, and language.Read this novel if you enjoy Titan/mech warfare. Not too heavy on lore and plot, just a straight action movie from start to finish.

great read
I haven’t finished yet though I’m almost done. but it is one my favorite books so. the ork plot is hilarious and over the top in way that keeps you engaged. the admec parts is also good but felt kinda slow at parts. my least favorite the chaos line though but that might change when I finished the book

Hilarious seeing how much fun the orks are having, plus how miserable and dysfunctional everyone else is, and the lies that people in the imperium tell themselves to justify what they do

It’s really refreshing to have a 40K novel set from the perspective of the xenos themselves and doubly so for it to be the Orks. Their characterisation is spot on. They’re amusing without it being overdone which I think is a easy trap to fall into with the greenskins. Their goofiness is contrasted nicely by how clearly threatening they are when viewed from the POV of the Adeptus Mechanicus.I must admit, when I saw that the Adeptus Mechanicus were the ‘bad guys’ of the piece I groaned, yet Mike Brooks made them interesting and engaging. I actually warmed to a couple of the Mechanicus characters which kind of says it all.BL books can be a bit hit or miss, but Brutal Kunnin’ is a definite hit for me.
