A Picture Says A Thousand Words
Sure some of the gear is outdated. Yes the text is not exciting. But for some of the best crystal clear winter pictures you have ever sceen it is worth twice the price! I actually find flipping through the book’s full page, high-quality black & white pictures inspiring. Many of the full page pictures tell a story that I think puts you in the original author’s head and reveal some incredibly desirable mountain scenarios.Don’t buy this book if you want to sit on the couch all winter. Do buy because it will inspire winter adventures and travel!!!

    godd review of snowshoeing
This was a good review of the history of snowshoeing, types of shoes, why you might want to pick one type over another. Gives you a feeling that you are living out the increasing popularity of the sport and technologic advancements in types of shoes and gear. Compares climate, snow conditions, terrain in various parts of the country. Good tips on preparedness for being outdoors in various conditions.

    Absurd
This is the worst Mountaineers book I own. The information inside is completely outdated and useless. It concentrates on gear for 3/4 of the book (outdated gear) and gives little useful information. If you are looking for a book on the history of snowshoes, look no further. If you are looking for useful information try elsewhere. I’m usually too lazy to review most books, but this was just that horrible.

I bought this book long ago and met Dave Felkey in person. We hired him and went out on a multi-hour trip near Breckenridge, CO and had the BEST time with him and his buddy who lead the tour. He took many items from this book and showed them to us in person. If you want to learn about the different types of snowshoes, how to dress apropriately for the weather, and how to avoid dangerous obstacles this is the book for you.

A lot of good information here about snowshoeing and snow camping.
The book is well written, and this updated edition has successfully brought the topic up to date. But the photos are rather dull and same-same.

Good condition and easy to read
I needed to purchase this book for snowshoeing class. This text was easy to navigate and understand making class easier. When I received the book it was in good condition.
