Smoky Mountain Investigation
Kylie Harper is a journalist who became an object of obsession of a serial killer. Nick Bentley is an ex-Delta Force captain who returned to his hometown to help his brother with a family store. Years ago, his friend’s murder had affected Nick so much that he’d fled his home. Now, when his former flame Kylie is in danger, he knows he has to protect her from a madman. As Nick and Kylie struggle to stay alive and stop the murderer, they also have to face their feelings for each other.I enjoyed reading Annslee Urban’s debut book.

Just love Annslee Urban
An excellent story, just enough mystery, and no gratuitous trash so common in most thrillers

All wrong for situation
This is a clean, romance suspense. I assume you have read the general description of the storyline and I’ll try not to repeat what you already know. There is a very light thread of faith. It does not indicate any particular religious belief. I would call this mild as far as suspense goes and nearly non-existent as far as romance. The serial killer stalking the female protagonist takes a back seat to the oft hashed over regrets of past decisions and missed opportunities. An underwhelming, almost casual response to what should have been a terrifying experience makes the characters seem dull witted. SPOILER ALERT Example; She’s being stalked, has seen the gruesome bloody bodies of previous victims. She goes to her isolated home, alone. Then she decides to work outside in her garden and puts in ear buds to listen to music and block out noises that may distract her. Other inconsistencies tip the scales for me. Our hero, fresh out of Special Forces sleeps like a rock while he is there ‘protecting’ her. He’s still sound asleep on the couch while she’s fixing breakfast. Again when she comes in and stands by his sleeping form. Not exactly hyper vigilance of an elite soldier. There are some skewed logistics as well. A body in a pool of blood on a conveyer belt with his throat slit, still oozing blood. Later we find out he was strangled first and placed there. Bodies don’t bleed once the heart stops. END SPOILER ALERT. I was looking for a more solid story. This one didn’t do it for me. However, if you like your focus to be on interpersonal turmoil and angst and are not bothered by details of reality, you’ll find your fix here. It’s well edited and easily read in an afternoon.
