Beautiful book, easy and delicious recipes, succint layout of the Wahls Protocol
This cookbook is an outstanding resource for following any stage of the Wahls Protocol, and I can’t recommend it highly enough! When I read Dr. Wahls first book, The Wahls Protocol, some years ago I was daunted by the cornerstone requirements of eating 9 cups of vegetables and fruits in a specific variety, and eliminating dairy, gluten, and eggs, so I did not attempt it. Then more recently, re-reading to see if I might after all use the protocol to deal with severe and chronic pain, I again thought it would be too complex, time-consuming, and expensive. Having this cookbook resource, I now find that none of these concerns are the case!Dr. Wahls is very sensitive to how much energy, time, and money people with MS and other disabilities have, and the day-to-day plan is easy to follow. It does involve possibly more grocery shopping that one is used to (likely shopping for very different things) and a few items, like coconut oil, are on the pricey side. But the trade-off on not buying ultra-processed packaged foods, dairy, and gluten products will help to balance that out.The presentation of each of the 3 stages of the Wahls Protocol (the basic Wahls diet, Wahls Paleo, and Wahls PaleoPlus, which is essentially a keto diet) is succinct and easy to follow. You’re also encouraged to ramp up slowly, no need to face eating all 9 cups of vegetables and fruits right off the bat (although she strongly recommends going cold turkey on dairy and gluten, which I did find to be a good strategy). Then, each section of suggested meals–smoothies, soups, skillet dinners, salads, etc.–begins with a “template” to follow using your own on-hand ingredients, followed by numerous recipes that she and her family enjoy. I have not seen one that I don’t want to try out at some point.Beyond that, one of the most beautiful cookbooks I have ever seen! Photography is fantastic, and layout is very easy to read. I purchased the paperback, but think I will use this often enough that I want to spring for the spiral-bound edition as well.

    Unique and Very Useful
I really like this cookbook!! It has basic recipes and then shows how you can make it your own. Dr Wahls also shows how to modify the recipes for the different levels of the program. I recommend this healthy eating for everyone but if you have any inflammation or auto-immune issues this is a really important plan to follow – it gives you back your life.

I love this book, but dont buy it unless you need it.
This book is great if you need it. Key being if you need it. We didnt and were doing a paleo stint. The truth is Wahls’ recipes are decent, but very little comes out the way it’s pictured or described. I think it’s just a matter of the paleo ingredients, but there were times when we would follow the instructions to the letter, but our food would come out as some inedible slop (particularly all of the desserts, not a single one sets the way she claims they do) I think the idea behind the book is great. and I think if taste and texture dont matter to you, you will be fine. But this is not an everyday cookbook for a family just trying to live healthier. All of her smoothies and spritzer were great, but once again, not one thing we made looked as appetizing as an pictures in the book, despite tasting pretty good.

    Feed your mitochondria!
I have lupus, along with several other chronic illnesses. I first started with Dr. Wahls’ book, The Wahls Protocol, and have been slowly changing my eating habits. When I first started following the first level, I got kind of bored of what I was eating and wanted to have more variety while still following the protocol. I love this cookbook! The pictures are lovely, it’s packed with nutritional science facts, and I love how all the recipes show adjustments for each level together. There is enough overview of the Wahls Protocol at the beginning of the cookbook to introduce the idea of eating for your cells and your mitochondria as well as avoiding allergens and food intolerances. And scattered through the book are other’s testimonials of how the Wahls Protocol has helped them. I also love that Dr. Wahls’ included a note about a new eating disorder called orthorexia, which is the obsession of eating “healthily”. When I had first learned about how processed food was so bad for those with chronic illness, I began to have a weird relationship with food, avoiding eating unless I had a healthy option. I felt like I had an eating disorder, but my criteria didn’t match the typical since I did eat a decent amount when I did eat, so I didn’t feel like it was a thing. Seeing that note included in the review and her emphasis that meals aren’t supposed to be stressful was a very thoughtful and important insight for those of us who can be a bit obsessive and aim for perfection. A cheat won’t kill you! But you will be uncomfortable! Haha. While I didn’t completely stick to eliminating sugar, gluten, or dairy. The increase in my veggie intake and the decrease of my carb and sugar intake really helped my energy levels. I usually go through energy and crash cycles throughout the day and those mostly subsided. I was pretty good about sticking to it for 3-4 months. Then I started falling off the diet when my cousin came into town a few months ago and convenience became more appealing. Good habits are so hard to build but so easy to break! I’ve learned how important my diet is in how active my disease is and I’m glad I have this cookbook to help get me back on track. I recommend this and Dr. Wahls’ other book to all of my friends with chronic illness. Feed your mitochondria!

Valeu esperar, recomendo !

As Psoriatic arthritis sufferer and after ten years of trying to help myself this book and the dr’sother book has put it all together and given me a road map .after 40 years avoiding any kind of fats ( probably why I have the disease) I am embracing good fats .it’s a bit scary but at this point I will try most things to keep my mobility. sugar was my main addiction but there are recipes in her book that can give you a nice treat .I have made the chia and coconut dessert which is amazing.as a vegetarian I can’t do all the recipes but I really appreciate the knowledge she has passed on regards to the properties in the foods we need to consume more of .she is an inspiration .

Buen libro, pero con recetas adecuadas solamente a la dieta de EEUU. No hay muchas dietas compatibles con los ingredientes disponibles en México, pero te das una muy buena idea de lo que tienes que hacer para seguir con la filosofía Paleo.
