Fascinating!!!
I saw this book and immediately ordered once I saw the illustrations. I love things like this! Beautiful visuals, tons of information. I can’t wait to keep reading and to soak all of it in. Very excited for the swimming book to be released in a few months as part of the same series.

Excellent book, my only nitpick is the nutrition section
Excellent book. I just got into running recently, at age 39. I learned a lot from this book. Well written and highly educated authors. Great warm-up exercises, strength exercises, and training plans. Clear explanations of common running-related injuries, how to prevent them (mostly by strengthening your hips and other large muscle groups!), and how to rehabilitate from them. Great explanations of the physiology of running, and great illustrations. Visually beautiful book.
Good and balanced discussion of forefoot strike vs heel strike pattern, although the forefoot partisans will disagree of course.
Two nitpicks:
For a better perspective on nutrition, read Eat, Drink, and Be Healthy. Science of Running suggest a low-fat diet, but actually diets containing moderate amounts of plant-based fats have been shown to be equally or more healthy in general than low fat diets. I’m not an expert on running, so maybe this doesn’t apply for peak running fitness, but I’m skeptical of their nutrition perspective.
They might also be a bit behind the latest research on lactic acid buildup. It doesn’t actually work how we thought it does for many years.
These are nitpicks that don’t really detract from the overall excellence of the book.

Great piece of material
This is an awesome book. Great info, great illustrations. Perfect for a new coach or runner to learn a lot in a hurry and help with the biggest issue in running which preventing and then treating overuse injuries.

Buy the physical book, not the Kindle version!
The illustrations of the body and the explanations of how the body works during running are great. They gave me a greater understanding of exactly what is happening while running. The suggested dynamic warmups and strengthening exercises were also good. The author gave suggested sets/reps on each. I wish he would have given an integrated plan on administering those exercises. The guidelines on training and suggested running plans were good – they look simple and sound, but not what I bought the book for. For content alone I would give 4-4 1/2 stars. The Kindle version however, stinks!! The print was terribly small and there was just no easy way to make it readable. Zooming in made some of it readable, but not the whole page. Spend the extra money and get the book. (Of course, I am assuming the print will be larger and easier to read if you do.)

Nice figures, not so much for the content
Initially I was liking the book, but as I went back into some specific material (eg. energy deployment and consumptio) I felt that something was missing, that I wasn’t really able to understand many things.
I didn’t want to buy Steve Magness’ book with the same name as I thought it was a previous version. I finally did and **recommend it** over this one. That one has many of the details that I think are important for me as a runner that wants to know why and how.

Easy to understand hard concepts
This book and other Science Of books are great for your personal education or as a tool for practitioners. It explains complex concepts in easy to understand terms. To me, the illustrations are the best part. They accurately depict the human body while simplifying and highlighting what you need to know. As a D1 track and field athletic trainer, I use these books as visualization tools to help me explain certain concepts to my athletes.

un bon livre qui devrait me permettre de progresser en course à pied en évitant les blessures. C’est en galis, il faut avoir une formation scientifique ou médicale pour bien l’aborder mais c’est clair et bien expliqué
