A beautiful and fantastic fully illustrated book for anyone interested in Yoga.
I have been into the martial arts and physical fitness all my life. I have recently included yoga postures into my regular workout routine. Whenever I get into any fitness program I read as much as possible about the subject. In the case of yoga, I have read numerous books and articles lately and I must say this fantastic book (The Yoga Bible: The definitive guide to yoga postures by Christina Brown) is the best book I have ever read on yoga. This incredible volume has over 170 yoga positions and they all are in full color showing the postures.
This wonderful 400 page book is organized into four parts. Part one provides a detailed introduction of what yoga is and the various kinds being practiced. The second part is the longest section and covers the actual practice of the yoga movements. It explains preliminary practices, standing postures, seated and floor postures, twists and abdominal toners, arm balances, backbends, inversions, relaxation, pranayama, internal energy locks and yogic cleansing practices. The third part is important because it focuses on the use of yoga exercises for various medical and physical conditions. The final part is about finding your yoga and determining what you are seeking from the practice. This section also explains the “nine branches of the tree of yoga.”
What really makes this excellent book unique is that it shows such a wide variety of yoga asanas (Postures). At my advanced age and skill level I could never do many of these yoga postures; however, there are enough simple and beginner yoga postures to practice in this volume. This short review cannot do this book justice, and if you are seeking a clear color reference book on the many yoga asanas (Postures) this book is for you. At this time this is my favorite yoga book.
Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: Tactical Principles of the most effective combative systems).

    just fantastic
I will mirror close to everyone else who has reviewed this product in saying that if it was spiral-bound it would go from being a great book to a near-perfect book. But the occasionally difficult-to-manage perfect binding is not a major deficit to a very well conceived and organized book. Not only are the asanas arranged according to general bodily position (sitting, standing, etc), but they also are arranged in a sequence that flow, so the following is one that would realistically be something that would follow the preceding. So you can intuitively hash out where the position you want is without having to return again and again to the index. At least that’s my experience.
Each asana is also labeled with lead ins, variations, and other helpful information, and many of the more complex ones have the sequence to enter it. Every single thing in the book is accompanied by good, full color, unambiguous photographs to compare against. If I lost it I would buy another copy. I think that’s about the best praise I can give a book like this.

Lot of good stuff in here though I wish the book was larger
This book has a lot of poses in it and is a great place for anyone to start I just wish it started from basics then went to more advanced and I wish the book was a bit larger size wise. It’s probably about 5-6” in diameter so it’s hard to hold it open and reference the pose because there’s so many pages the book wants to close and you lose your page.

Marked with which poses are for beginners
Lists beginner poses and ways to gradually get into positions if your body isn’t flexible enough in the beginning. Spiral binding holds book flat for reference during poses.

Phenomenal resource for my future RYT-200 training!
To the reviewer who posted the tip about adding on spiral binding, you are my favorite person in the world right now! I went straight to FedEx Office as soon as my book arrived.
I can’t belive how much useful information is packed into this pocket-sized book. Everything you want to learn about Yoga postures, finding your spiritual balance in life and learning Sanskrit terms can be found in this definitive little resource. I’m planning on starting my Yoga teacher training next year but didn’t want to go in blind, so to speak. This book is invaluable. Beautiful photos to use for reference along with detailed instructions on how to execute the moves. I see why there are so many positive reviews about his Yoga Bible.
Absolutely phenomenal! 5 enthusiastic stars. Namaste.

    Ordered Spiral-bound, received paperback.
I’m only really dissatisfied that I received the paperback version instead of the spiral-bound. There’s nothing wrong with the book as it’s in perfect condition and contains all the information I was hoping for in a yoga guide, but I ordered the spiral-bound specifically so that it would stay open during my yoga sessions.

A real gem, thorough, comprehensive, incredibly helpful
Here’s what you get: photos of all poses, brief descriptions of how to get into the posture, and, and especially helpful feature, a sidebar for each posture listing the focus of your gaze, the “build-up” (that is, preparatory) poses, the counter-poses, how to “lighten” (that is, ease) the pose, and the effects of the pose. After a brief introduction, the main body of the book deals with “The Practice” in which the postures are organized into categories such as Standing Postures, Seated and Floor Postures, and Twists and Abdominal Toners. There are at least two photos for each posture, including the final posture and an intermediate posture.
All in all, a very nice summary of the various postures. Not a replacement for Light on Yoga, of course, but an excellent portable reference work.

Usually preamble re yoga then excellent layout, explanations, suggestions and photos…I’m old, I’m creaky (also cranky!) my knees are shot, my back aches, my prolapse has lapsed and I’d be lost with my yoga so this book is an extremely useful tool….highly recommend 👍

I was pondering whether to buy this, then I noticed a “used” book was being sold, and it was VERY cheap. I didn’t care much if the book was a little worn and torn.
However, much to my suprise. It’s really new!!!
Not only that, but I was expecting it to be delivered at a later date but it came SOONER than the date mentioned on the webpage…TRIPLE BONUS!!!
    I’m so thrilled!!!
I just know I’m going to love this book.
I looked at the index at the back. There is also a bonus chapter at the back about uogs for healing such as anxiety. Arthritis… constipation, and even depression……giving a short paragraph about how yoga can help, plus it gives recommended poses for just that.
