Favorite nature book
Completely blown away buy this book. First, the cover is beautiful! Qhen it came in i was a tiny bit disappointed because it was not as beautiful inside as it was on the cover and it was much thicker than i had expected. I had intended to have my children read it during family reading hr but after seeing the thickness i felt like it may discourage young readers. So my husband began reading it and after reading only a chapter he made us all sit down to listen. Its well written and the words and good info makes up for the lack of color on the pages. The kids have each picked it up at different points and flipped through to a chapter about something they are wondering about. My son read about trees one day and my daughter read about lighting strikes on a day we where seeing lots of lighting. They use it kinda like a reference when they come across something in nature they dont know or understand. My husband and i are both reading it in order and have read out loud to the kids when we come to a section we find really interesting. This book makes you want to go outside and look for the signs you learn. I can no longer drive down the road without looking for the “wedge effect” on a tree line not to mention various other things that make even a short outing seem like a bit of a scavenger hunt. I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves learning.

Awesome book!
I bought this for my son as part of his birthday gift basket as heâs an avid hiker and adventurer. I thumbed through the book and was really impressed with the information that I read and I know that it will be of great use to my son.

Interesting facts
Interesting reading, but a little long-winded in spots. Author’s style seems to toggle between a resource guide and a novel. But if you can get thru it you’re bound to learn something new.

Great book for the nature or weather lover
I have bought other books by this author for my Dad and he loves them. He will tell me different things he learned about in the book. If you have someone that loves nature or the weather, this is a great gift!

Maybe another coffee table book…
So far, I’ve not really learned much from this book and I’ve read a few chapters. I do love the author’s writing style. It keeps me engaged and entertained, which is why I keep trying to read it. But 3 chapters in, I have not really learned much that isn’t common sense. I did learn a couple of things about a mud puddle that I hadn’t paid attention to before. The reason I gave 3 stars is because there’s a lot of “fluff” in the book. It’s still entertaining, but I bought the book to LEARN, not be entertained. I don’t have time to read much, so what I have read so far hasn’t taught me as much as I would have hoped. It seems to me to just be another coffee table book, which is not what I wanted. Maybe I’ll learn much more, further into it.
Update: This book is not engaging enough to make me want to find time to read it so I haven’t finished it.

How did anyone get this observant and develop such amazing deductive powers about the natural world…? This book is a must-have for nature lovers. OK, few (b&w) photos and not that many line drawings either. But the wealth of info contained inside is mind-blowing. You will never look at nature the same way again. Be warned though, some of his other books, Kindle and hard copies, seem taken from this so watch for long repeat sections. Nice to have it all in one place as hard copy though, just in case of Armageddon, in which case a great addition is the Dorling Kindersley Survival Handbook by Colin Towell, also on the ever-resourceful Amazon… And no, I’m not a seller just a very happy customer.ð
Edit: meantime bought a second copy as a gift, so impressed by this book and determined never to let go of my own copy!

COMPRE 2, UNA SIRVIO Y LA OTRA NO, NUNCA PUDE DEVOLVERLAS PUES EL TERMINO PARA HACERLO ES MUY CORTO, LA CAMARA LLEGO Y SOLO TUVE 1 MES PARA PROBAR Y COMO NO ESTABA EN EL PAIS CUANDO LAS PROBE YA NO HUBO OCASION DE DEVOLVER UNA DE ELLAS. NUNCA FUNCIONO. LA OTRA SI PERO NUNCA PUDE PONER EL RELOJ. NO ES AMIGABLE.

I love to read and I love books and this title soared right into my Top 10. Within minutes of starting to read it, I had gained useful knowledge I could apply practically right away on my next hike outdoors. The first thing I learned about was inversion and found out how it was affecting the outdoors region near my home. Each page I learned something new to look for while in nature. One of the most purposeful books I’ve come across in 40 years.

Es ist selten, dass man so ein interessantes Buch mit so vielen praktischen Informationen über Natur findet. Ich fühle mich jetzt viel selbstsicher in der Natur.
