So helpful! Provides a great foundation to better understand coding from ‘scratch’.
I love the illustrations in this book and the clear to the point language. The lessons build on top of each other with a great flow. My favorite part of the book is that it provides examples of why concepts are important. Like, the chapter on loops references how cartoons sometimes use the same images over and over, and without ‘loops’ the cartoonist would have to draw things over and over again. However, with loops, you can set it and forget it! Haha well, that’s what I got out of it, but it was more than I knew before I helped my little brother with his work from ‘Scratch’.

Perfect classroom resource for coding!
Iâve been looking for a book like this for years! I teach coding to 3rd-5th graders and I got this book to use with my students.
The project guides are easier and more intuitive than the tutorials that Scratch provides on their website. The ten projects in the book cover everything in our coding curriculum. They are easy enough for a kid to look through independently but also a great quick reference for an adult to answer studentâs questions. Itâs written in kid-friendly language with an internet safe mindset, so it would also be perfect as a self-guided learning tool outside of the classroom as well.

Great teaching tool!
I am a volunteer teacher of SCRATCH at a local library. This colorful book engages the kids to learn in a fun engaging way and helps me to structure the lesson. Highly recommend.

Great book but missing pages
I love this book for my daughter and would highly recommend it to others. The only reason I removed one star is that there are 3 pages (6 pages of instruction) missing from one of the lessons. It is still a great book and it is an excellent resource but very disappointing getting the majority of the way through a project only the have the second half of it missing.

Maybe too short.
My daughter blew through this in a weekend. She says she wants more scratch coding books.
It’s funny that something built for kids works better and has better documentation than some of the stuff we spend tens of thousands of dollars on at work.

Great tutorials
I’m sure there are places where these lessons could be found on the Internet, but for me and my students, it has provided some very insightful instruction into basic coding operations and AR and AI concepts. Don’t be alarmed, any third-grader could complete them.
