Friends Don’t Let Friends Miss This Book!
Friends Don’t Let Friends Miss This Book!Â
The title of this book instantly captured me as I love anything that has “art” involved. So many things in our lives can be artful. With a great structure, applications and scripture, this book by Kim Wier, artfully tells us how God made us His friends and then gives us His word to know how to be friends. I find that friends are the great gifts God gives us in our journey through life and here is the book to build those relationships. Kim also weaves stories and examples to understand the seasons of friendships and the value of friends. Don’t miss this! The Art of Friendship is a great book to share with friends! This would also make a valuable study for people seeking to deepen relationships and reach others. We all need friends! This book says, “Go!”. Â

Honest and Inspiring
Friendship is tough, especially nowadays and for introverts like myself. Kim Wier struggles with friendship as well, and that has led her to encourage others in their endeavors to be a better friend, and to find those that will stick with you no matter what.
In the book, Mrs. Wier breaks down the characteristics of a good friend, and challenges you to see if you meet these standards. All of her thoughts are scripture-driven, and I especially found useful the list of friendships found in the Bible (although I think some of the references were incorrect). Her occasional personal stories were humorous, and I enjoyed how she tied it all in to the point she was trying to make.
I’d recommend this book to all women who’d like to improve their friendship life, but especially to those like myself who’ve felt the struggle to make true connections. Kim Wier’s honest and inspiring writing is not a magic formula so you can gain friends overnight, but instead will hopefully encourage you to look at your life, stick it out with the people God’s placed in it, and be an agape friend to those around you.
I voluntarily received this book from the author and publisher in order to write an honest review. All opinions are truly my own.

Friendship
WHY I CHOOSE THIS BOOK
Friendship – I’m learning more about it. The ins, the outs, and what place it has in my life. Â
WHAT I THOUGHT ABOUT THIS BOOK
The first half of the book was solid for me – I would have happily given it four stars and was looking forward to continuing to read. Then the second half of the book ended up not really hitting the right chords for me and I had a harder time getting through it.Â
Three Pros:
-The author writes in a real, amusing, identifiable way. She has hard-hitting truths, funny anecdotes, practical advice, and biblical examples. She seems like she’s lived an interesting life, and I felt like I got to know her through the pages of her book.Â
-The first half of the book talks about what friendship is, the importance of friendship (including looking at what the Bible has to say about it), how to be a friend, and things we can work on in our own lives. I flew through this part and appreciated it a lot.Â
-The overall message of the book was an uplifting look at friendship and how we can build deep and enduring friendships in an age when “friends” are sometimes considered to be a number on social media. She also talks a lot about what it means to love in the way that the Bible tells us to, and that was encouraging.Â
Three Cons:Â
-The second half of the book is when I stopped nodding my head and agreeing with most of what I was reading. She talked about friendship like a menu where you choose your various friends like you’d choose a meal in a restaurant. Her example probably has merit and holds up when you dig deeper, but it just felt really weird to me and I didn’t like the idea behind it.Â
– Most of the time I felt like she had a balanced view on friendship, but sometimes in the second half of the book it seemed like she was saying “Be a good friend so people will be a good friend to you”. And while there isn’t anything wrong with wanting people to be a good friend to you, I felt like the attitude behind why we should be a good friend felt off.Â
-She talks about “Covenant Friendship” like what David and Jonathan had. And, while I agree with some of what she said, she went to an extreme that I don’t agree with.Â
CONCLUSION
I appreciate the first half of the book, but I don’t agree with everything in the second half. I wouldn’t discourage people from reading it, but it’s not a book that I’m giving a huge recommendation. Still, it’s a neat look at friendships.Â
RATING
Iâm giving The Art of Friendship 3 out of 5 stars. Iâm so thankful for the generosity of Bethany House Publishers for sending me a copy of this book so I could review it and share it with yâall.
