The new second edition, while still excellent, is a bit smaller in size than the first edition
This is an excellent encyclopedic book on the history as well as current state of space travel from the earliest rockets through future space colonization. It is profusely illustrated with many large detailed drawings and photographs, as well as 3D cutaways of space ships, space stations, and rockets. Anyone who has any interest in space travel and exploration will enjoy this book. This second edition is an updated version of the first edition but in many respects contains the same pages for many entries without change (presumably because historically nothing had changed between the first and second editions for such coverage). But the new second edition is smaller in size than the first and all photographs and illustrations are likewise downsized from the first edition, albeit not by that much. The first edition dimensions are 10.3 x 1 x 12.1 inches while the second edition is 9.7 x 1 x 11.4 inches. The second edition is still a large book though. I plan to keep both in my library because I personally like the larger illustrations and photos of the first edition (but that’s just me). Both editions have the same page length of 320 pages, despite what the product details for the first edition on the Amazon page for that edition states (ie, 360 pages).

Very interesting!
It is a tech keepsake. It has important photos. It includes photos and information of the Soviet (and other countries) space program(s).

Overall a great book, but left out a main contributor to spaceflightâ¦
Over, this is a great book with excellent visuals and pretty good text (could have used more written text), but left out what I believe is a huge contributor to spaceflight. That would be ULA (United Launch Alliance).

The Space Flight book is full of pictures from the Moon landing days, very nicely presented and described. I like it, and I think it would help give some perspective to kids who are learning about planets, the universe, and rockets. Very nice book!

Es un libro grande, con tapas de cartón duro. Las imágenes son muy buenas, aunque se les queda la marca de los dedos. El autor un poco sesgado.

I bought this book last minute via prime as an extra gift for my son’s 9th birthday in May 2020. He had recently resumed his interest in all things space and particularly the history of the space race and the science of rockets. Well, it’s fair to say it was his favorite gift and he didn’t put it down the entire summer. It was the only book he took with him on a week away in Wales in the summer and he read it almost every day for weeks on end. He has learned so much, and when it came time to go back to a re opened school in Sept after 6 months of being home, he really didn’t want to return. But we found out that the first term’s learning module would be on…SPACE! And that made all the difference. I don’t think this book is aimed at kids in particular, but I just wanted parents to know if they have a child who is interested in space and exploration and science, this is brilliantly laid out: a good balance of textual information with photos and images. Lots of history, intrigue, info rich but not dry at all. A winner!
