So Friendly
I have looked through many, many how to paint books, and this is the best I have found. It actually took me a few months to get up my courage to open this book and give it a try because I was afraid for some odd reason. Art phobia? So, first I took a peek inside to see what it was like, on a day when I had no paints out, nor intention of trying. But I had enough of a glimpse that it pulled me in. Today I did the first lesson. Each lesson has a clear straightforward objective, an appealing subject from nature to paint, with a bit of info on the subject to enhance one’s time with the subject, and step by step instructions, all with cheerful encouragement. Even though you are not expected to learn everything in one lesson, you do get a nice piece of finished artwork as a result of each lesson. The layout is very well done. I know I would enjoy being in a class with this author as the instructor.

Good book if youâve never drawn or used watercolor
Well written book with fairly detailed instructions for drawing and painting with watercolor. If you are not a beginner this is too elementary. The examples of the work would not make a beginner give up⦠they are reproducible. Has some good tips to help with creating watercolor and gradually presents more challenging lessons. I liked it, was not challenging and Iâm far from a good artist.

One of the very best and my new favorite!
I have quite a few books in this genre (watercolor + drawing) and this is by far one of the very best. Simply flipping through the book provides a lot of inspiration and eye candy. The projects are all interesting and do-able. Instructions for each project follow the same pattern by showing a big picture of the finished project, a brief explanation about the subject, and then an 8-step breakdown of the drawing, inking, and painting processes. The first chapter contains explanations of materials and supplies as well as skills that will be developed throughout the project, and the chapter is sized ‘just right’, leaving most of the room in the book devoted to projects. Another couple of things I love about the book: (1) the color and artwork on the cover is very eye-catching and hard to stop looking at and (2) the pages inside are glossy , which is far preferable to some of the matte pages I’ve seen in art books recently. I hope the author has plans to publish another book or two in the future!

Best line and wash watercolor book
I love this book so much! Iâm pretty new to painting still and really love watercolor with line work, I just think it makes everything pop. Most books are not this style so thatâs a huge win for me. But it also has regular watercolor paintings too which I havenât gotten to yet but still plan on doing (Iâll use the techniques I learned in the first half of the book to add my own line work!) I love how detailed each picture is and how something so simple really comes to life. Each painting teaches you a new skill. Hoping there is a book 2 in the works. Hereâs what Iâve done so far, my mushroom isnât painted yet but I love it so much already!

I bought this as a gamble because the reviews were so good – every 5 star is well deserved!!! This is THE BEST watercolor book I have. I had never made watercolor plants and animals before but now Iâve made most of the art in this book dozens of times – theyâre my go to postcard pictures. The book guides you through the sketch to the paint and ramps up in difficulty slowly, all while teaching you how to paint from a reference photo. And did I mention how simple the color pallet required is?! 11/10
