great for both phonics and helping with reading
I used these books to tutor 4 1st graders. The books were arranged with emphasis on first letters of words and then ending sounds of similar words, and exercises for both vowels and consonants. The only problem was some words referred to items not found in current urban environments such as wells, etc.

I’ve been using this as part of my 6 year old’s 1st grade homeschool curriculum. The work sheets are colorful, which makes it more interesting and simple instructions and they aren’t so long.
