Smooth Ride!
In summary, this is an excellent exercise bike with all the bells and whistles. A great addition to my home gym. After trying Schwinn 270 recumbent bike at my local sporting goods store (Dick’s Sporting Goods) and liking it a lot, I was contemplating between the 270 and the 230. Basically there are three main differences: (1) The 270 has 25 levels of resistance versus 20 levels for the 230. (2) The seat has cushion on the 270 while the 230 has a plastic seat with holes for airflow. (3) The 270 could have up to 4 saved profiles and the 230 could have 2. Number of profiles on the 270 might be a good feature for folks who would share the bike with more than 2 people but I was only sharing with my wife so it wasn’t a big deal for me. And since the 230 is a new model (2016 vs. 2013), I decided to go with the 230 and I couldn’t be happier. Before I talk about pros and cons, I just wanted to talk just a little bit about myself so you get a better perspective. I’m 5’9”, male, 160 lbs, in my 30s, in a relatively good shape but nothing close to a triathlon athlete or body builder. I’m just a casual rider who puts in about 30-45 minutes, 2-3 times a week.Pros:- The bike has a very smooth ride on all resistances. No squick, no thump, just a smooth sound of a well-oil machine probably very close to those heavy duty commercial grade exercise bikes you see at the gym.- Slider seat is so easy to adjust. I know for this price range, this is a requirement especially when two of us are sharing this bike adjusting back and forth.- Sturdy! Of course as I described above I’m not testing this bike to it max limits since I’m just an average guy with average use but so far, nothing is shaking and nothing is loose.- Low impact on your knees and joints but you could probably say the same on all bikes and elliptical machines.- Programs. Many programs to choose from. Some are fun while others I’m never going back to but that’s just based on my personal preference.- Two LCD monitors. This allows me to put my iPad on top while I keep track of my workout on the bottom LCD.- Great, knowledgeable and friendly customer service. Registering product and basic troubleshooting were easy.- Assembly wasn’t a rocket science. It seems all the parts that you think could be assembled in the factory, they assembled in the factory so good job Schwinn. But that doesn’t mean I only spent 3 minutes putting this bike together like putting a hot pocket in a microwave. Think of the assembly process as preparing a delicious food using a slow cooker. It takes time but not difficult if you know what I mean 😉 So I would say 1-2 hours depending on your skills.Cons:- 2 Profiles. Now this is not a con for me since I’m only sharing this bike with my wife but if you have 3 or more people sharing and want to save your workout results and progress, you can’t do it with this bike. The 270 allows 4 profiles just as an FYI.- The front panel / LCD dashboard does not look like the one shown on the Amazon page. Please refer to my picture. It is less shiny and you will notice the logo on top is not red in real life. Also the buttons are the same color as the panel but when you look at the picture on Amazon it is darker and shinier. This is definitely not a deal breaker and maybe I’m just being picky but I just wanted to note.- Plastic seat and back. I personally haven’t had any discomfort riding on a plastic seat but I could see that this may be slightly uncomfortable if you ride more frequently. Again, this is an exercise bike not a La-Z-Boy recliner so I expect less comfort from this bike. But then again, I could see that this could potentially be an issue.Another note – I also purchased Supermats Heavy Duty P.V.C. Mat for Treadmills/Ski Machine (2.5-Feet x 6-Feet) to go with this bike in case you are wondering. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004IJI7HW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Great exercise bike
After reading through the numerous varieties of recumbent bikes (and reviews), I went with the Schwinn, mainly due to reputation and what I hope will be reliability. Iâm in my mid 60s, in good health but donât get (AKA enjoy) much exercise. My dr suggested a recumbent bike, which he said would be something I could use into my 80s+. I paid the $10 for Amazon to deliver inside, which was well worth it (tracks where the truck is and itâs estimated 3-hr delivery window) and provides reliable and friendly delivery. I was able to put the bike together by myself (over a 2 hour period, including various breaks). The directions (more like diagrams) were easy to follow, for the most part. I had to look closely several times but the parts were all listed and identifiable, which I laid out prior to beginning (including the hardware from from A-J or whatever the last letter was). This was extremely helpful, but be extra careful cutting the groups away from the cardboard as I had accidentally cut off a couple of letters and had to go back to the fist page to figure which bolt was which. The first photo was everything unboxed (the large main piece was a bit difficult and heavy to get out of the box by myself – husband wasnât home, but I couldnât wait to get started), so I cut one of the sides of the boxes and drug it straight out (this was the most difficult part). ð The last photo is the finished product. Lastly, the bike is super quiet (my husband didnât even realize I was peddling yet while we were watching a movie). The only thing that doesnât appear to be working correctly is the heart rate monitor on the lower handles. It showed an extremely high rate (200+range) but my Apple Watch reflected 90-100, which is more normal for me when slightly exercising). Iâll go back and look at the directions, in case Iâm not holding onto them correctly. Overall, this is a GREAT bike and especially for the price!

Quiet, easy to assemble, not a monster in size and all the functions I need. I am not a cyclist but needed a good fitness program for my out of shape body and I am also 65 and my knees are not good for walking or treadmills. I am so pleased. Its also well made. Thank you Schwinn.

The bike was easy to assemble, 30 min but not by me, I find it very sturdy and comfortable. I bought it for home use because I donât go to a gym and wanted to fit some exercise into my day. My iWatch tells me Iâm on an 18 day streak which is something and it recognizes my indoor cycling fitness so I enjoy keeping an eye on my heart rate etc. The heart rate monitor on the bike doesnât work as well as I had hoped so I rely on my iWatch for that.Iâm an older woman who hasnât exercised much in years so while Iâm only cycling using levels <5 I will work my way up to the higher levels eventually; switching levels is very simple.Iâm also enjoying the free Explore the World tours that you can sync with an iPad that you plug into the bike. Cycling along the French Riviera or through national parks is a lot of fun and keeps you occupied. The tour keeps pace with your speed as you slow down or speed up.All in all I really like the bike, it was a good investment.

I am 6′ 2″ and this bike is lots large enough for me. Takes about an hour to assemble with one person. Instructions are clear, although you need to pay attention to assembly of the tower holding the display. Be sure to put the drive wheel cover on the vertical tube before connecting all the wires and bolting the tube on… or, like I did, you’ll have to take it all apart. Not a big deal, and yes, I should have looked more carefully at the picture. All in all, easy to assemble.Pros:The bike is sturdy and well made. The display is excellent and gives you all necessary data. Moving the seat is easy, secure, and is infinitely adjustable so you can place it anywhere along its track, not just in certain holes like most bikes. The unit is just the right size, not too large so that it is in the way, but has a very secure feeling footprint. The rear feet even adjust to make up for floors that aren’t perfectly level.Love the built-in fan and the drive is super quiet and smooth!Cons:The heart monitor works relatively well, though as other have mentioned, not perfect. It has a bit of a lag, but for this price of bike, it is acceptable. The display has no backlight as far as I can tell which is a bit of a drag, but not a deal breaker. The utility and clean appearance of the display make up for that. The lower part of the seat is a little small and at a bit of a weird angle to the back. You will feel like you’re leaning waaaay back the first few times you use it, though I have gotten used to it and it doesn’t bother me.Overall: Great recumbent bike for the price, likely the best one offered on Amazon right now.
