Children Who Dance in the Rain is a beautiful, warm picture book, with strong and commendable themes of friendship, creating hope, building community, and finding beauty in unlikely places.Initially, I was a bit defensive when I saw the word privilege, argh another âwokeâ book I thought. But this book surprised me because this book is sending a different message to us, itâs telling us that we all have privileges no matter who we are or where we are. Privilege doesnât have to be negative, it can be used for good, to help and to bring hope for the underprivileged. A child recognizes inequality and tries to do something about. I appreciated hearing this idea for the first time and am happy to be donating a copy to our local library to spread this notion to our next generation for a better world.The bookâs text is both sensory and colloquial, with believable-sounding dialogue, and an equally believable relationship between a middle class child and her attitude towards the things that she has been given in life.

Spiritual not religious… inspires you to believe in something greater
This book is extremely inspirational. I don’t know if I believe in religion but I do believe there is a Divine power… a universal power. What I liked most about this book is that it not only makes you believe that the Divine is not only something high above us but something is inside, regardless of your religion. This book teaches children that we are all a part of the same universal fabric no matter what we believe in or what we look like or what our status is.I like that the character realizes that she doesn’t know what the Divine is and is confused by it but realizes that the only connection she can make to the Divine is what she believed in as God.Moreover, it makes children realize they don’t need more things, they dont need the newest ipad or more toys. They can be happy with what they have. What is more important is what we do to help others in need.This is by far my favorite children’s book.

I was a skeptical… but now I’m a believer.
I wasn’t sure this book was going to cover all the dreams and hopes I was expecting but it really did turn out to be an amazing book. I am an author myself and wasn’t expecting to like this book but now I even purchased 3 copies as gifts. The fact that 25% of the net proceeds are actually going to help underprivileged children around the work speaks volumes about the integrity of this book. I was pleasantly surprised that this book really did surpass my expectations. I honestly don’t write reviews because I’m quite critical and expect quality from my peers. However, this book is well written and the storyline along with the lessons are quite simply ‘divine’. You would be doing any child a favor by introducing them to Sophie and Nanaki – two characters that will only be the best of role models for children in today’s world.

Children Who Dance in the Rain reminded me of my first trip to Mexico. I was nine years old, and for two weeks my family built houses and spent time with the locals of a small town in the Baja. Being only nine, I would, instead, play with the children who lived in houses made from tin and cardboard. Their joy and generosity impacted me greatly. I learned so much about what truly matters in life at such a young age. Sophie’s story, in many ways, was my story. Never before had I seen this message presented in children’s literature. This is a truly beautiful book that doesn’t try to push an agenda, but rather present you with truth.

This book is great–it teaches important lessons about perspective and taking things for granted. Sophie’s journey is an age-appropriate way of communicating some of the advantages that children in the first world have, while gently giving children a glimpse into some struggles and priorities that children who are not in their situation have. Sophie’s casualness about all the advantages her parents have provided to her and how fortunate she is to be on the receiving end of those, will be familiar to many. The artwork is simply gorgeous. This is a strong start for a first-time author.
