Each pose has about 4-5 pages with good sized, clear pictures as well as simple descriptions …
Have had this for a week or so and have been slowly looking through it and learning new things. I am familiar with most of the poses but have not been a regular practitioner. Each pose has about 4-5 pages with good sized, clear pictures as well as simple descriptions of correct form, proper breathing and physical benefits. It’s definitely not about how many poses one can cram into 15 or more minutes or how fast you can do them, or how strong you are, it’s about being aware of what you’re doing as you’re doing it.As a 65 year old with a low level of fitness, this book gives me the confidence that I can actually become skilled in the poses and develop my fitness to a good level. I also attend a yoga class designed for older people. Even though the activity level in the book can be fast, medium or slow, depending on your needs, it’s a useful book for anyone. I practiced this morning for 15 minutes slowly and my muscles feel it!I’m glad I decided to get this based on the other reviews as I think this will be a good reference for a long time! And certainly less expensive than a private lesson.

My favorite yoga book for beginning students!
As an experienced yoga teacher, I recommend this book to beginning students all the time. It is written by a very respected and loved teacher, who is also an excellent physical therapist. Her instructions are clear and safe, and she expresses the deep personal worth of the practice. There are guides for choosing a teacher, well organized practices, big color pictures. It is everything you could wish for in a beginning yoga manual. This book remains an excellent guide for practice for many years, as we are all beginners for a very long time.

ok
Not exactly what I expected. Good descriptions but I don’t think most older or inflexible people could do most of the modified poses. Lost of poses with blankets and pillows. I bought book to review then to give to my dad who wants to try yoga out. Not beginner enough. First pose described is Mountain Pose but the photo on the left hand side is Standing Side Bend? There is a pic on the next pg of Mountain but a beginner is already throw by the bent mountain. And strangely, Standing Side Bend is never addressed in the book anywhere. Another one for my shelf…

Good Yoga Book for Beginners
This book is easy to follow the poses and photographs. I took a few Beginner classes at my local studio and that gets very expensive. I decided to get this book so I can learn more yoga moves at home. I bought a Manduka mat and followed this book. She explains each pose and what their benefits are for. I feel this book has given me confidence to go ahead and teach myself yoga at home.

a must read
This is an incredible book. Plenty of modifications given. great for teachers in training and serious practitioners. It would serve well as ancillary reading for any Teacher Training in any discipline. Judith writes in a concise style explaining benefits of the pose and proper alignment. She completely nails the responsibility of teaching in a safe environment. This book was not even on my TT’s reading list but I would not have made it through my TT without it.

Kindle version is… Okay.
I bought this on my kindle, but would have much rather bought a hard-copy of it. The kindle version leaves something to be desired. The book has a lot of pictures, and it’s hard to actually tell which picture goes to which posture because they’re scattered everywhere or take up an entire page by themselves. Does the picture illustrate the posture on the page before or the page after it? If you’re a newcomer to Yoga (the intended audience of this book) you won’t know unless you look up the postures somewhere else first. Seems kind of weird as this is what the book should be instructing on to begin with.Other than that, it was a good book.

Great book if you have bad knees and are into Yoga.
I have bad arthritis in my knees and this book was very helpful. She not only gives a good overview of WHY the poses help and WHAT the action is doing, she also recommends varying sequences within time constraints. This was very helpful when I do my yoga every day.
