My son likes these books
My 8 year old 3rd grader is reading at an early 2nd grade level. We have read book 1 and 2 so far. They are more kindergarten or early 1st grade reading level for a child who does not have difficulty learning to read. My son has not been diagnosed as dyslexic at this point but I truly believe that will be the result after his testing is complete. He likes these books because they are thick and look like the books his class mates are reading. I like that there aren’t a lot of pictures to be distracting. What I don’t like is the stories are a little harder to comprehend because of the way they are written. I understand the use of sight words over and over, but we don’t talk the same way these are written so he has a harder time understanding.I will purchase the next book to keep up with the extra practice at home.

Great thing about this book is the decodable reading, which makes it very sustainable for early readers or readers who need extra help work on phonetic sounding to learn to read rather than relying on sight words or rote learning. The bad thing is that it was very hard to engage our young reader (kindergarten) as the story is quite non-sensical so these books would’nt be great if you need to improve comprehension skills. We only lasted maybe 5 pages, so maybe it does get better and would be great to practice phonetic sounding out of words as it is repetitive, but my child is not keen to take up again.
