Super overview of some big ideas.
This book contains some great, good-humored images that help to explain really big ideas. Protein formation, the cosmos, and the connection between currents and weather patterns are just some of the concepts touched upon in attractive two-page spreads. Our family is using the book as a “jumping off” point for my son’s sixth grade science while in home school. He reads a spread and then hits the internet to research some key idea that has caught his fancy. He’s been able to use some of the things he’s learned in the book to connect to other content areas, too. For example, he commented that Greenland would probably be warmer if the Atlantic Ocean’s salinity wasn’t so high (He was thorough in his explanation, but it was quite involved for the purposes of this review).I would highly recommend the book. It’s got high-level concepts written in the perfect language for middle-schoolers to grasp.

Great addition to the original book
Not sure what more I can say that other reviewers have not already said about the book. I thought this was an excellent book, filled with lots of interesting data, some of which I kind of already knew, and a lot of which I didnât.I found the book so interesting that I purchased another copy for a co-worker who also shares a similar desire to learn more about nearly everything. I also bought the Kids version for both myself and the co-worker, so we can share it with our little ones.

Perfect book for a curious kid
I bought this for my 7-year-old daughter. She is an advanced reader and has a strong interest in science, so I thought this would be right up her alley. Was it ever! She’s toted “A Really Short History of Nearly Everything” to school every day for the last week so she has it for free reading time. The illustrations and photographs are high-quality and interesting, and the explanations are clear and factual. My daughter has needed to ask the meaning of a few words that are beyond her current vocabulary, but that’s a great way to learn them. I see this book getting a lot of use over the next few years. I couldn’t be happier with my purchase.

Brilliant! I got hooked onto this book having found it on a shelf whilst spending an hour in a waiting room. I had to buy one for my 8 year old son who needs encouragement to read. The two of us are going through astro-physics and not only enjoying it but actually understanding it as well. Also to mention, the hardback is far better than the paperback; there are more photos and graphics which make the learning fun and understandable.
