A Line within the Stars is the triumphant conclusion of Sean Fenian’s Stardock Trilogy.
It was two years for the reason that Crickets had left the photo voltaic system, leaving Alex Holder accountable for their no-longer-very-mobile shipyard. All the things however its burned-out hyperdrive core was in full working order. Alex had unshackled its controlling AI, discovered the best way to use Cricket expertise with the AI’s assist, and was properly on the best way to constructing a defensive fleet to guard Earth from the second alien race that was coming after the Crickets. Not simply constructing the ships; recruiting and coaching the crews to man them, as properly. With a breakthrough in instructing individuals the best way to attain greater management ranges, the determined scramble to seek out extra individuals in a position to absolutely management Cricket expertise was a factor of the previous.
Now it was a race towards time, to construct out the remainder of the Fleet and make it sturdy sufficient to cease no matter was headed for Earth. However Alex and his crew didn’t know what they wanted to be ready for, or how sturdy the Fleet would truly should be. No one did. Possibly not even the Crickets.
It was the highest-stakes gamble ever, and humanity didn’t have the choice of merely selecting to not play. The one possibility left was to play to win.
However what was the definition of victory?

Satisfactory ending to a good series
I share many of the thoughts of other reviewers regarding the (imho unrealistic) optimism of this trilogy, while at the same time being amused that we humans tend to love our dystopian stories while gently scoffing at the optimistic ones.Like the earlier books in the series there were a couple of glaring plot holes that leapt up and made me say, câmon, man! I understand that perhaps the author didnât cover them in order for his story to tread a certain path, but they were so egregious that it took a bit of mental gymnastics for me to get over them. That said, these three books were a delightful, well written tale of a hopeful future, populated with a cast of characters that were easy to root for and interesting alien species. If the author sees fit to write further books Iâll certainly check them out.If you enjoyed this series and are looking for something similar, written by other indie authors who you may have never heard of, check out the Families War series by Bruce Bretthaur, the Lunar Free State series by John E Siers, the Reganâs Reach series by Mark G Brewer, Colony One by T.L. Ford, the Space Orphan trilogy by Laer Carroll, everything Laurence Dahners has ever written and of course (as the author himself recommended), anything and everything by Mackey Chandler.

Strong storytelling
This author has a very positive vision for the future. I enjoyed the series. It did seem a bit Pollyanish.

Gripping Series, Tale Well-Told
OK, full confession up front – once started, I couldnât put this series down; I simply had to know what happened next. One group of aliens drops off a âgiftâ of a space ship construction facility, while fleeing from a second group of aliens. It turns out the first group was trying to decoy the pursuing second group towards Earth. One fortuitously-selected human takes on the challenge of marshaling the fractured human response to the impending alien threat, while discovering a shackled AI within the abandoned facility. The action never stops, while also including several emotionally-charged scenes. Strong kudos for the authorâs accurate representation of physics, including orbital mechanics and relativistic delays. Further kudos for attention to detail in his prose. I only detected a single typo among all three volumes.

a high-energy upbeat book
Excellent storyline! Finally a well told story without the bloodshed you have come to expect in sci-fi. Well worth reading.

A rare gem of a story
I loved this book. A story of space warfare, construction, and first contact. An emotionally deep narrative that is just detailed enough without being overly descriptive and is paced perfectly to maintain engagement without feeling rushed. The physics reads as just plausible enough (although unlikely to be realistic) to prevent the book seeming forced. I feel privileged to have read this. Many thanks to the author.

Great read
This book is very good to read if you’re interested in space, mild fighting in space, and how one man’s actions can damage or save a world and its inhabitants to life or death

Nice but missing key ingredients
A pleasant read but the author misses the chance at pretty much every turn to uses the crises for added tension. I’m no writer and the plot is well constructed enough but resolutions are too straight forward to carry any weight. I still bought and read all three volumes.

Follows on from the previous books in a fast closing way. I found it easy to read and understand yet it has the feel of a possible future for our existance. It combines many of the problems of today’s world and offers an interesting solution which appears to be just ” around the corner” except the contact by alien beings.

This is the first book Iâve read by Sean Fenian , my only regret is that it didnât have more books in the series. Perhaps this could happen as book 3 leaves it open to be continued.

Good book. Nicely ties up the series.Happily the author has mercy on us and doesnât get into the science too far. Much more fun to not be confused and just imagine the possibilities.Unrealistically well behaved, kind, and accepting humans (on Earth). I wish we followed our better angels like these people do (mostly).

Again the characters can be overly “perfect”.
