A Book Every Little Girl Should Own
What a surprise Unicorns, Dragons & Trolls holds four excellent stories all bound under one cover. A collection of short stories, which include, The Phoenix and the Dragon, a story about an unlikely friendship, but nonetheless a forever bond. In Bliss and the Magic Unicorn, the story is a humorous delight. A horse gives birth as a fire nears. Her offspring wobbling too close to the edge of a cliff falls, plunging down and down. He is separated from his mother forever and must live life on his own. With Oric, Linus, Pindar and Hera, is another dragon story where they do not listen to their parents’ instructions and learn a very life-frightening lesson. The last story, The Lonely Troll, begins with a troll bullying everybody. His entire tribe leaves him behind. He is very, very sad and lonely. He decides to search for his tribe, being very big with his head towering way up high, on his way down a road he almost steps on a frog. He learns a jealous witch turned the unicorn into a frog. Tuff pairs up with Lilly and they take a journey to the Black Forest where Lilly must find and eat the golden flower. Each story contains a moral, which is akin to most well known fables. The illustrations are of traditional cultural artwork, which exhibit creative thinking, explaining the world in which we live with more meaning and making sense of the environment and nearby surroundings.

A beautiful girl writes beautiful books
The first time I read through this book I fell in love with it. Each page describes different attributes of “beautiful girl”, something like this:”A beautiful girl has skin that is fair.Whatever she’s blessed with she wants to share. She is a giver of gifts; has others on her mind. She likes to do things that are thoughtful and kind.”The first line of every page describes a physical attribute of the girl in the picture on that page. Besides the fair skinned girl, there is a dark skinned girl, a girl with skin like desert sands, girls with just about every hair color and style, a girl with freckles, tall and petite girls, an even a girl with a scarf on her head with apparently no hair at all. I’m pointing this out because I noticed in a few negative reviews that some girls are excluded – there are no pudgy girls or painfully shy girls, and apparently a few people have taken offense to that. But the important thing is that after that first descriptive line, there are several lines about beautiful girls being kind, loving, and a whole variety of various attributes about each of the girls. The key is at the end of the book, when the author states,”A beautiful girl is any girl at all. It’s not only external it’s every girl’s call. If you are a girl you are beautiful too. Bring beauty to the world by just being you!”… and it continues along like that about all girls being precious and loved by God.It doesn’t really matter if a girl doesn’t perfectly match the description on any particular page. Perhaps a nice springboard from this book would be for your girl to draw a followup page of herself, and with her parent’s (or teacher’s) help, describe herself and what makes her special. Just off the top of my head, something like this:A beautiful girl is soft and roundShe seldom ever makes a soundShe likes to draw and paint pictures tooBringing each day something brand new.(My apologies to the author for copying her ideas.) Anyway, it doesn’t have to rhyme. Just something for your special girl to personalize the beautiful message of this book. I think it’s important to focus on the message of this book rather than on the specific details on any one page. This is a wonderful, life-affirming book for girls, something that is missing all to often in today’s society. (I believe there is a similar type of book for boys, but I haven’t read it yet.) Bravo to the author for promoting children’s self-esteem. It’s too often overlooked.

Show kindness and friendship towards everyone, no matter how each looks on the outside
“A Beautiful Girl” by Nikki Rogers is a sweet, short book written in rhyme that works most of the time. The illustrations are very sweet and show how girls are different and are all beautiful. All kinds of different girls are represented in the story with sweet photos to show kindness and friendship towards everyone no matter how each looks on the outsideWe would recommend this book to children around ages 3-5.

Very nice children’s book
This is a very nice children’s book. You are a “beautiful girl” if you have “skin that is fair” with “golden hair”. You are a beautiful girl if you have “skin like desert sands”. You are a beautiful girl if you have “freckles on your face” or “hair black as night” or if you’re “gracious and tall” or “petite and small”. This is a very good way to let children know they are beautiful no matter what their exterior packaging. Nice illustrations too!
Debbie L. Hepner –

all girls
This is a beautiful book for girls. At the first page I was scared when it said skin that is fair, but then it went through different skin types and hair types and how all girls are beautiful. The rhyme was nicely done as well.
La La in the Library –
Nice.
This story was nice and the illustrations were okay. A heads up that it has religious undertones. It managed to be pretty diverse.

I used to read this book to my girls when they were younger and just bought it for my niece for Christmas. Such a lovely book reminding girls that they’re beautiful exactly how God made them.
