    I’m blown away! While I’m not completely finished with the book, I’m back on Amazon ordering copies for others. I’m in awe of her knowledge and ability to connect so much factual information together in a relatable, graceful, and non-judgmental way. I can barely put this book down as there is so much useful and implementable information. As a mother of two (under 3 yrs old) everything applies to my age/stage/gender; however, it is all incredibly useful regardless of these details. I’ve texted my mom so many tips, it is time she receives her own copy. Where have you been all my life, Dr. Kelly Brogan?!? Undeniably grateful for your passion, dedication and perseverance. For those on the fence about this book – do yourself a favor and order at least two copies – one for your nightstand at all times, and one to lend out to those you care about most. You will not regret it!Adding to my review – I stumbled upon the author via Food Babe, a source I find reliable while navigating the food industry. If you are currently on anti-depressants, I think it would be wise to read the book thoroughly and then take ideas to your doctor to see what could be altered in your current treatment. I don’t think Dr. Kelly Brogan is telling readers to follow her guidelines to a T, instead, she is empowering individuals to question, get involved and become passionate about their health. You could even argue that she is setting the stage for readers to engage in graceful rhetoric and further push medical research to explore connections, new or old, for a more hopeful and healthier tomorrow. She deserves credit for stepping out in a sea full of right fighters. Anytime we open ourselves up to vulnerability like Dr. Kelly Brogan, there is bound to be those tearing away our dignity, especially on the Internet. While I appreciate the honesty of the 1 star reviews, shame on those specifically who clearly prejudged the author and didn’t take her words for what they are worth: a conversation starting point for positive lifestyle changes. And to those reviewers who already know everything there is to know about the subject, move on and write your own book instead of negative/hateful Amazon reviews. Just be sure to send a copy to Dr. Brogan so she can leave you an Anazon review. It would likely have the tact and compassion she so generously shares throughout her book.

    Worth every penny
    Nothing is perfect… no book, no person, no advice, but I think a wise person can filter through all the imperfect things in life (and books) and find truth. I think this book is definitely worth reading if you are struggling with depression or know someone who is. I have been to numerous doctors, counselors, and 2 psychiatrists with friends and not one was willing to tell us the side effects of the medications they were prescribing. They told us how wonderful and safe the antidepressants are and that they would prescribe them to their own kids. This is completely untrue and unkind. It disrespects the patient as a person, thinking they are not able to make an informed choice about what they decide to put in their body. When I mentioned the antidepressant side effects I read about I was chastised by both counselors and psychiatrists … they said every single side effect has to be published and acted as if I am stupid for reading them. Well, when a side effect of a drug they are asking someone to take is a fatal skin rash, I want to know! That said, I am thrilled that Dr. Brogan is wiling to talk about how dangerous these medications can be. I am thrilled that someone is willing to talk about other options besides antidepressant medications (even though some people need those). I think it is terrible that doctors don’t look into things like B12 and Vit D deficiencies or thyroid issues as a possible cause to depression before prescribing antidepressants. I wish a doctor would tell a depressed patient that seasons of depression are normal and that depression can resolve itself in a few months especially with a really good counselor. There is so much information in this book that your doctors, counselors, and psychiatrists will never tell you that is worth reading… then you can make an informed choice and ask educated questions. What I wouldn’t have given to have read this book before a dear family member committed suicide. I think this information could have saved her life.

    Holly Christ! This was an amazing book! It’s eye-opening, it’s easy to read, it’s full of scientific studies to back up her claims. I wish there would be a book like that for men as well, as this information should be available to everyone! I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this book. Dear Kelly Brogan…if ever you get to read this…thank you from the bottom of my heart!***New review 1 year after I read this book: I changed my diet (to be honest I have cheated many times) however I now know what not to eat. Before reading this book I was on antidepressants for 9 years. I had tried a few times to stop but just couldn’t. This book made it possible for me to quit these meds that were making me soooo drowsy and sick. Thank you so much again!

Als Psychiaterin habe ich immer wieder mit meinem Fach wegen der hohen Chronifizierungsrate und der teilweise starken Nebenwirkungen der Medikamente gehadert. Schon länger bin ich naturheilkundlich interessiert und habe begonnen Naturheilkunde-Elemente wie Vitamin B12 und Vitamin D Bestimmung einzusetzen. Auch las ich als begeisterte Anhängerin von Meditation Studien über die positive Wirkungen der Meditation auf die Stimmung und Abnahme der Neurotisierungstendenz. Auch wünschte ich mir, genau wie die Autorin, ein Wegkommen von einer Dauerpsychotherapie, wie manche meiner Patienten das bräuchten. Dann fiel mir dieses großartige Buch in die Hände – zunächst als Hörbuch, später besorgte ich es mir als Buch. Es enthält einen ganzheitlichen naturheilkundlichen Ansatz über die Entzündungshypothese der Depression, die Anregung beim Auftreten psychiatrischer Symptome nach körperlichen Ursachen zu suchen (wird in der gängigen Psychiatrie grob vernachlässigt), und zeigt auch auf, welche gängigen Medikamente zum Auftreten einer depressiven Symptomatik führen können, wobei die Liste der depressogenen Medikamente meines Erachtens stark erweitert werden kann. Sehr gut gefällt mir auch der Ansatz, die Ernährung genauer unter die Lupe zu nehmen, wobei es aber meiner Meinung nach nicht eine Ernährung gibt, die für alle passt und auch der vollständige Verzicht auf Gluten schwer durchführbar und nicht sinnvoll ist. Auch der Einbezug von Yoga, Meditation, Sport und ausreichend Schlaf ist total hilfreich! Hinzugefügt werden kann hier die ausreichende Exposition mit Tageslicht und Lichttherapie mit einer Tageslichtlampe, falls dies nicht regelmäßig der Fall ist.Zusammenfassend lässt sich sagen, dass dieses Buch mit dem Überblick über Alternative Behandlungsansätze der Depression mich sehr inspiriert hat und hoffentlich vielen Menschen nachhaltig helfen kann!

    Ca fait longtemps que je soupconne l’industrie agro alimentaire de nous empoissonner et l’industrie pharma de nous ‘soigner’ en nous rendant encore plus malade. Tout ça juste pour mettre quelques billets dans la poche d’une poignée d’hommes. Et bah avec moi ça ne marchera pas. Vous pouvez garder vos saloperies avec du gluten et du sucre à gogo.
