This audiobook was a comprehensive informative timeline of the history of the United States, from the first settlers to approximately 2021. With activities and/or quizzes after each chapter, it helps to reinforce what the kids learned in that chapter.The narrator spoke clearly and slowly, and gave breaks for the questions to be answered. I think it is a good classroom tool for upper elementary students, to maybe the beginning of middle school. Also perfect for homeschooling families.

This is another excellent book by captivating history. I enjoyed learning about Columbus, and the missing first American colony, and the Civil war. All of the stories were excellent. The photographs and maps are helpful and there are many activities in the book.

This is a good, factual, quick-to-read, and easy to understand book on American History. I’m in my 40s and learned a couple of things that I didn’t remember from school.I do have two complaints. Each part is so short that it’s almost more of a synopsis than anything. But, knowing how short kids’ attention spans are these days, that’s probably for the best. The other is the “fun fact” paragraphs. They came almost once per page and sometimes seemed like they were thrown in because there was nowhere else to put these facts. I am very glad they became just “facts” for the more serious war stuff. I was really afraid it was going to say “fun facts” and I’d have been really disappointed in Captivating History. Once again, though, they did a great job on this book.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Ok if you like the modern CE instead of AD
Since we have homeschooled our children, they have grown up with the AD notation in their reading. My daughter was enjoying this book but didnât like the CE replacement of the AD. She likes the more traditional notation. Because of this, she will finish the book, but I doubt she will ask for any more, which is sad as she is quite a history buff. I guess we will move onto another series.
