This works to help numb whatever is causing you discomfort. However, if you are able to allow the area you applied it to dry, that is helpful…as in try to keep your mouth open or pull your lip down (if applied to the inner/upper lip). Otherwise, when saliva hits it, it will spread to your whole mouth, and then your whole mouth is numb instead of a localized area.
