Beautiful book!
This book is amazing. I love the animation and the detail of each animal in the winter. The way of living for each animal and it is not a long wordy book that can overwhelm a child or teacher.

Great informational book for young kids
Iâm trying to build up the nonfiction section of my daughtersâ library. This book is a hit with my 4 and 2 year olds. The graphics are illustrations instead of photographs but the information is all factual. Itâs short enough to hold their attention but doesnât feel like a waste or disappointment. Iâm a reading teacher and Iâm very pleased with this book.

Perfect for my preschoolers
I previously bought “Animals in Fall” for my preschool class. (ages 3 – 4) I used it during our fall theme and was the perfect book to explain a variety of animals and their habits in fall. I didn’t read it word for word with my younger group but the pictures were vibrant and the kids were very engaged. I decided to purchase this one for our upcoming winter theme and was not disappointed. Perfect as a read aloud in circle time with my group – and it would also be informative for kids up to about 2nd grade to read on their own. Love the series!

Good for main idea & details!
This is a good book for any kid interested in animals & seasons, and I’ve used it both in a regular 3rd grade classroom and now at home with my K & 2nd grader in home school to learn about animal adaptations. It’s a great book for asking questions: what are the main ways animals adapt to winter? and answering questions using details from the text as we go. I’ve done it where we use it as a first “taking notes” book and also as a “build a table” info source where we list the different adaptations across the top, and research other animals after we finish reading this text. I’d say it’s independent reading for about 2nd grade & up or a read-aloud for anybody younger, depending on reading level of course!

Has fall behaviors too.
I was looking for books on how animals behaved in each season for younger children ages 3-5. For spring, I went with animal life cycles since many reproduce in spring like birds nesting etc. For fall, I had a book on preparing for winter as well as a book on migrations. So, I got this one to cover animals in winter. I was a bit disappointed that the book rehashes fall animal behaviors like migration, storing food, etc since I already had books on those topic. I understand that since many fall behaviors are preparation for winter, and so they are connected to winter behaviors. But mentioning all those things again made the book feel redundant and made the winter section feel slimmer than the title seemed to indicate. I will probably use the slimmer fall book with a younger crowd and use this longer book with an older crowd. I may add in a few other winter behaviors though like bears raising their babies undergound etc. just to make the content longer for winter.
