We bought this book to donate to a school library in memory of Dr. Dale Bremmer who worked for NASA. Very pleased with the book.

I bought this having first purchased ‘A Galaxy of Her Own’ , 2 years ago, I was not disappointed! I have grandchildren ranging from 4years to 8years old, the younger children love having it read to them; the older ones enjoy dipping in and out enjoying both the fascinating accounts of true stories and the marvellous art work which accompanies each story. Each account is informative and well written, exactly right for the target audience. ‘Space Explorers’ makes a brilliant companion volume to ‘A Galaxy of Her Own’ whilst also making a splendid addition to any young space enthusiast’s bookshelf. The author is to be congratulated on producing two books for children which are both educational and entertaining.

Norbert’s Treasure Trove –
I have to confess this book was a little different to what I was expecting as they are typically full of pictures of rockets and astronauts but light on the facts, with just a paragraph or two on each page. This book is at the other end of the spectrum with the emphasis on historical events in space history with just a sprinkling of pictures and artwork.Want it does do and does very well is tell the story of key moments in manâs quest to reach the stars. It tells of the events, the context and the facts behind the people, programmes and set backs that have shaped space exploration. The facts are all there but described using a language that will engage 8 years olds upwards. It doesnât shy away from the fact that space is dangerous and there are those that have lost their lives in the pursuit of space flight.Overall a great book that children will either enjoy reading themselves or having it read to them.

Space Explorers – I couldn’t put this book down and read it right through in two sittings. I love anything to do with space exploration, so that certainly helps, but it was Libby Jackson’s compelling, accessible narrative and storytelling prowess that kept me engaged, and I think children aged 9 and upwards will find all of these stories engrossing, too.My favourite chapter was “Secrets, Spies and Satellites (April 1981)”, a story I was unfamiliar with about STS1, the first flight of the Space Shuttle Columbia and the mysterious clandestine goings-on.I also “enjoyed” the chapter, “When it all goes wrong” which pays tribute to those astronauts and cosmonauts who have sadly lost their lives in humankind’s endeavour to explore space. All fascinating stuff.A really nice book, great for teachers too; all of the stories lend themselves to being read aloud. I also liked Leonard Dupond’s unique art style, kind of quasi-Soviet era comic book illustrations.
