Gut health & comfort have improved and vitamin levels finally up!
I did a fair amount of research on BioGaia products when looking for the right probiotic for my needs – F, 58, 18 years post-bariatric surgery, pre-diabetic and on Wegovy for 6 months for post-menopause and covid weight gain. In recent years I have been struggling with brain fog, stomach discomfort, nausea, low D and B12 levels (so hard to get those levels up!). When I went on Wegovy I knew I was going to need to change up my supplements – especially because Wegovy would likely increase nausea. The combination of Bariatric Advantage Ultra Solo w/ Iron plus BioGaia Osfortis has been a game changer for me – my health and well-being have improved on every dimension. I feel like my digestive system is finally working properly. The brain fog, stomach pain and nausea have greatly diminished and my blood work came back with no red flags.

An important component of my bone health regimen
After being diagnosed with osteoporosis in 2020 at the age of 74, I decided to do all I could to prevent further decline in my bone health (and avoid medication if possible). So I stay active, do weight bearing exercises, use a vibration plate, avoid processed food, simple carbs, and sugar. I eat a lot of vegetables and salads and a moderate amount of meat (chicken and/or grass fed beef), and salmon or tuna. My supplements include Osfortis, K2, D3, krill oil, magnesium, and joint support daily, plus twice a week multimineral, B complex, and vit C. (Also Preservision daily). My Dexa results in 2022, at age 76, after two years of faithfully following this regimen, showed significant improvement in my lumbar spine (6.9%), with my total hip remaining stable. I am pleased with these findings, and although I cannot credit any one factor as having made all the difference, I am committed to continuing to use Osfortis as a part of my own personal bone health program.

You can make yogurt from this!
I can’t tell if this is having any real effect, but it’s an easy pill to swallow (even for someone who has trouble with most pills) so I’ve been taking it daily for several months. The price is pretty high so I recommend making yogurt from this! It’s quite easy, recipe below.0. sterilize your bowls/spoons/etc. that you will be using. optionally, sterilize your milk by heating it to boiling, keeping it at a simmer for 20min, and then allowing it to cool to ~99F.1. add 1 capsule osfortis for every 2 cups of milk. stir well.2. put in a yogurt machine or sous vide machine3. set it at 99F and wait for 24-36 hours until the yogurt is thickfor subsequent batches, you can add a bit of the previous yogurt instead of a capsule.

review for guys and some microbiology
I am a guy. I don’t know about bone density effects for ladies. This review is for the guys.Even though BioGaia will tell you the Harvard mouse testicle phenomenon from 6475 has not been seen in humans, I was pretty sure mine were bigger. Then my wife said something about it. So, I think, maybe, yes on that topic.Furthermore, BioGaia will tell you that 6475 does not make yogurt. I have been playing with these in a microbiology lab and I agree with BioGaia. 6475 is persnickety, quite sluggish on lactose, and quite unable to control a dairy prep before faster tramp bacteria dominate the system. Yogurt bacteria are perfected for dairy; 6475 seems unsuited for dairy. If you wanna play microbiologist, you can culture this up in a MRS broth if you know something about aseptic sterilization technique and growing lactobacillus. An all-plant soy peptone/glucose/yeast extract broth also works. I have cultured these and can tell you they are indeed viable. But, you really gotta be on top of your sterilization as 6475 is not the fastest and anything less than excellent sterile prep opens the door for tramp microbes. Some microbes are easy to grow, some not so easy. 6475… not so easy. Now that I have experienced growing 6475 in the lab and seen the level of aseptic technique required, and based on my own tests with dairy (which support BioGaia’s assessment) my conclusion on yogurt is: Sorry, you yogurt makers are probably making yogurt with tramp bacteria; your sterilization is much less than mine in the laboratory and thus your door is wide open for tramp bacteria. Recall, “lacto”bacillus refers to lactic acid production and does not imply anything regarding lactose as a food; the fact that anybody assumed they could make yogurt with this likely stemmed from them having forgotten that basic fact from undergrad microbiology. lacto is lactic acid, not lactose. So, the powder in these capsules is legit. Yes, it is alive and well and, seemingly yes, it may make ‘em bigger, guys. And, finally, 6475 is hard to grow, which justifies the price IMO.

Dead cultures – buy direct from BioGaia
These arrived and I attempted to make yogurt with them. I have done this before using the same Biogaia product with success. These will not grow. I had a microbiologist friend try them in her lab. They are simply dead. Must be due to heat exposure, they are within date printed on bottle. I bought the same item directly from Biogaia and it works fine for yogurt and my friend confirmed in her lab.BTW, 6475 can make yogurt if you follow the Davis method and use the inulin – inulin is a polysaccharide easy utilized by 6475. I add some dextrose to provide food above the inulin.Since they are marked as non-returnable, I have $50 worth of inert veggie based capsules.I won’t buy probiotics through Amazon or from this vendor again.
