This is another wonderful installment in the DK Treasures series. The animals and plants featured in this book are truly weird and wonderful. Sometimes strange, sometimes creepy, often bizarre, there are so many that I had never heard of. Kiddo (9) and I greatly enjoyed learning about them.Each one-page entry features a a few paragraphs of text and a large and detailed colorful illustration. This format makes it easy to read a few entries before bed, which makes for an excellent bedtime story for science- and nature-loving children.Kiddo and I love this series and he often chooses them for bedtime reading because they are soothing and full of interesting information and pretty pictures to look at while listening.I received a review copy of this book.

This book is SO WEIRD! In the absolute best way. It really is wonderful. It is full of interesting, enthralling, and yes weird information. The photographs are beautiful and each page is well laid out. I love the layout of the book. Each page is laid out differently and features so much. My favorite might be the Lenticular Clouds and my least favorite is the frog eggs hatching from skin. That picture made me squirm and the kids thought it was hilarious.There is a great glossary and index included which I always like seeing in a nonfiction book.

Very well presented hardback full of lots of information, however, not much detail in any of the descriptions, and the illustrations have a watercolour look to them because the paper has a semi matt finish. It is a shame because the subject matter really lends itself to full colour treatment and a more detailed text would make this a real classic.
