    VERY Nicely Made — Recommended
I got the 85cm ball, and whoa… is HE a big boy! Perfect for my long torso, and practicing back bends. The ball itself is very nicely made, no skimping on the ball itself, and no detectable odor. We’ve purchased other Black Mountain Products before and have never been disappointed. My only criticism is that the provided pump sucks. A lot. It took me a loooong time and annoyance to get my 85cm ball inflated. I guess they have to provide SOME pump, for those of us who don’t have one, so we can use the darn ball. But wouldn’t it be nice of BMP offered a really nice pump that you could buy as an option? So… great ball. Sucky pump. In short: Highly Recommended. Just buy your own pump 🙂

    Built Like A Tank
Last summer I picked up a used Gaiam ball at a thrift shop. (I think it was this one: Gaiam Balance Ball Beginner Kit (Small, Purple)) Unfortunately, I think it had a history of over-inflation or was just worn-out, so inflating it to the correct size left it kind of flat, and I doubt it’s safe to use anymore, even though it’s not leaking. So recently I ordered a cheap Reehut Anti-Burst Core Exercise Ball w/ Pump & Manual for Yoga, Workout, Fitness (Grey, 55cm) from Amazon, but when it arrived with a hole in it, I sent it back and opted to fork over the extra money for a Black Mountain Products ball. I’m glad that I did. When I took it out of the package, my first reaction was “Wow! This thing is heavy!” Unfortunately I did not think to weigh the ball before inflating it. The rubber is much thicker than either the Gaiam ball or the Rehut ball–something impossible to determine from product photos on the Internet! It came in a box with a small plastic foot pump, 2 air hole pins, and some really great, detailed instructions for how to inflate the ball (including circumference measurements as well as the standard diameter measure, both of which are in centimeters and inches) and notes on how to decrease your chances of puncturing the ball in use. The inflation instructions are explicit about only using the pump included because it won’t allow you to over-inflate the ball. I didn’t do that. Instead I used a multi-purpose plunger-type pump with the tapered inflation nozzle from this MINTCRAFT FDQ910 1 1 1 Inflation Kit, 4-Piece to inflate the ball. As the ball got close to the correct size, I measured the circumference with a tape measure every few pumps, being very careful not to over-inflate it. The directions are also correct in saying that the ball will feel full before it actually reaches the correct/stated size. If you think your ball is mis-marked/smaller than stated, measure it to check, then keep pumping. Seriously. This ball seemed fully inflated at 48 cm tall (150 cm around), but I kept pumping and it eventually reached 55 cm tall (172 cm around). When I was done, the ball was very firm, with just a little give when I sat on it. That’s a *good* thing. Rubber stretches over time, and I don’t want my ball being super soft and squishy/not even ball shaped when inflated to 55 cm anytime soon!Since I didn’t use the included plastic foot pump, I can’t be certain of it’s quality, but it seems pretty cheap/flimsy. Honestly, I find it weird that pumps are included with exercise balls in the first place. I’d rather my exercise ball be a dollar or two cheaper and buy a better, multi-purpose pump separately. One thing I do want to note about the pump, however, is that the hose can be attached to one of two valves on the side of it. The blue one is for inflating the ball, and the red is for deflating the ball, so if you do use the included pump, make sure you’ve put the hose on the right valve, or you could be wasting your time.Because the ball is basically smooth on the outside, it might slip out of your hands if they get particularly sweaty. Since most exercise ball activities involve balancing on the ball, rather than holding it, however, I consider that a pretty minor negative. The smoothness also allows you to sort of see your reflection, which you may or may not find distracting. The ball appears to have a slight seam/mold line in the rubber around the middle.Because of the weight of the high-quality thick rubber, certain exercises that involve holding or lifting the ball may cause you to fatigue a little quicker. In the long run, this will also be a positive, as it will build a touch more strength, but if you’re incredibly weak, you may want to consider a different ball or a different form of exercise altogether. It’s worth noting that the ball is made in China, for anyone who is a stickler about avoiding Chinese-made products or strictly buying U.S.-made ones. I’ll take my products from just about anywhere, as long as they’re decent quality. There were a couple of spots on the ball that seemed kind of dirty when I first opened it. While I suppose that it’s possible I could have received a used ball, I doubt it. I’m betting that it’s just a little bit of residue or something from the factory. Anyway, it pretty much came off when I went at it with a cheap melamine sponge. Beyond that, there are a few minor surface imperfections and the wrinkles/creases from its previous life folded up in a box are still smoothing out, but that’s to be expected.Overall I’m pleased with the purchase and would highly recommend it. The ball itself seems to be much higher quality than any other exercise ball I have experience with. Since I don’t mind the minor negatives, I still consider this a 5-star product. If I ever have any problems with it, I will update my review and include info on interactions with BMP customer service and all that jazz.

Great for a seat, or for stretching
So far this has worked out well and seems durable. Follow the instructions for inflating and you’ll be all set.

    After eleven years…
this ball is still holding it’s original pump of air without a refill. I’m surprised to see that they still make this model. If the quality hasn’t changed, I couldn’t recommend more. Nice job, Black Mountain!

Sizes? We don’t need no stinking sizes! Just put a bunch out that have the exact same size and slap different numbers on them!
On the advice of a resident nurse friend, my wife and I bought one of these to bounce on while holding our newborn daughter after feedings to help with gas. Since my wife is a petite 5’3″ compared to my 6’5″ self, we bought a smaller size. Unfortunately when measured, the original ball size of 55cm was wildly disproportionate to the size of our existing 65cm ball. And by “measured” I mean we inflated it and put it next to our 65cm SKLZ ball.Ever see a chihuahua next to a Great Dane? Yeah. That kind of disproportionate. And it leaked. A check with some water showed no leak around the inflation valve, but a couple of minor pinholes in the ball itself. So we thought, okay, let’s upgrade to a larger size! 75cm it is! Sent it back via Amazon, and ordered a different BMP – this time with a 75cm size! That’ll be the right size!Oh, get used to disappointment. The ball came, and not only is it smaller, FULLY INFLATED, than the 65cm ball, it has the same little dog size issues with our existing exercise ball. And here’s the thing – it says 75cm on the ball itself.Being 6’5″, I often talk to folks who say, “Oh, I know a guy who’s 6’5″!” Then when meeting them in person, they’re more around the 5’11” range. I’m sure a lot of women run into this in the dating scene, but the reality is, nothing is more annoying to a tall guy when shopping for things (clothes, cars, etc) than something that says “tall” and turns out to be….not so much. My favorite experience was meeting a guy who swore he was 6’6″, yet while wearing 2″ platform heels came up to my chin. (That’s approximately 5’10”.)Since I was a curious little monkey, I did a bit of research. Turns out 75cm is supposed to be the height of a fully inflated balance ball. Since the ball is, essentially, a sphere, that means the circumference divided by pi should give us the diameter, which should equal 75cm.Getting out the ol’ measuring tape and doing a bit of geometry, I checked the actual circumference of the sphere – which does nothing for itself there. The radius of the ball, fully inflated to a comfortable sitting inflating is…28.9 cm – which probably means I overinflated it. Those of you doing the math might go “AHA! It’s actually 55cm!” Or aroundabouts there, estimating extra / less for elevation (sea level, essentially).Yep, that’s right! It is a 55cm ball with 75cm printed on it. And just to add insult to injury (in all probability literally, if you used it for a seat when you needed an ergonomic height) this is the second ball from Black Mountain Products. The original said it was 55cm, and in point of fact was two sizes smaller, which means that either BMP is using a strange new metric system heretofore unknown to science and modern technology, or they’re just making really crappy printing errors that could be corrected by the simple expedient of inflating the ball and doing basic math.Since this is the second ball we’ve ordered from Black Mountain Products, we’re skipping this one and heading back to the drawing board with a different ball that isn’t (quite literally) one size fits all. To say this is ridiculously disappointing would be hyperbole – however, I will say that while the balls do seem to be made of quite tough rubber, both also have somewhat of a slow leak. And not, as you might assume, from the plug! Nope, both had an audible hissing noise, and when I checked the rubber with a mild detergent solution, I found not one but four pinholes.I’ve come, therefore, to an inescapable conclusion:Either:A) my OXO measuring tape, Stanley measuring tape, two separate online calculators, my own scientific calculator, and my wife’s “seriously just return it and let’s get a different one stop trying to prove you can do math from 20 years ago” calculations are incorrect, or…B) Black Mountain Products ran out of various sizes and printed the same run of balls with different sizes, and failed to quality test any of their products. Two products, supposedly out of various shipments, both had the same sizing errors AND manufacturing flaws out of the box on the first inflation, and are a company that either doesn’t care or doesn’t bother with fancy things like “quality control” and “measurements” and “proper labeling of products”.For the record, the circumference measured on the BMP “75cm” ball is 182 cm. Doing the basic high school math:radius = 28.9662 cmcircumference = 182 cmarea = 2635.92 cm2My advice – buy a ball that isn’t one of these. There’s only so much BMP could do to make this right, but it mostly involves not putting bad merch out there and not shipping balls with holes in them.Of course, for a company that makes exercise balls that are supposedly anti-burst, maybe the undersizing and the pinholes are features, not bugs? Either way, I’m shipping this back post-haste, and refraining from buying another BMP product ever again. The pictures speak for themselves – these are actual measurements, and the supposed “75cm” ball is sitting next to an actual SKLZ trainer ball.(Since these are also supposedly rated to 2,000 lbs, I’m wondering – do they mean the new measurement of pounds, where a pound is 4 ounces, or what? I’m not likely to test this out, but it does make me wonder.)

Since I did inflate the ball just after I received it, it have never been deflated for many years now.It was easy to inflate it with the provided foot pump, and the plug is very secure when it is in all the way.The pupm was also very useful. even though we have not needed to use any pump for this ball, we use it for many things other than the ball, mostly pool floats and inflatable toys. Unfortunately the foot pump and hose were broken 3-4 years after purchase.During my first pregnancy, I purchased this item to use at my desk and table instead of chairs at home. I chose blue colour. It made me much more comfortable especially in my third trimester. My oldest grew up woth this ball, used to play with it, use it as toys or baby activity gears like walkers. It was also good to use at baby physio. At times, they did lots of doodles with washable markers, put stickers and ornaments to decorate, but cleaning was pretty easy.
